Data recovery firm Ontrack is giving some insight in its most unusual data recovery cases. The top 10 list includes everything from fires, hard drives that are run over by a truck, damages caused by fluids to hard drives that are sent in with dirty socks. Our personal favorite in this list is the thought that a drop of WD40 would eliminate a squeaking noise from a hard drive.

This writers personal experience that power outages can take a hard drive out of commission did not make it on to the list.
