Boy Kills Dad After Getting Keyboard Taken Away
A tragic story.
A tragic story happened in southern Russia, where a 14-year-old boy killed his father with a sledgehammer. This reportedly happened after the boy's parents had taken away his keyboard as punishment after he spent a week playing computer games.
"At around 1am (local time) on April 12, the suspect dealt his sleeping father at least two blows on the head with a sledgehammer," the region's investigative committee said, according to News.com.au. "The man died on the spot from a head injury."
After killing his father, the boy's uninjured but frightened mother gave the keyboard back. The boy then continued to play computer games for several more hours before he fell asleep, at which point the mother contacted relatives who called the authorities.
Russian law dictates that the 14-year-old boy is eligible to be charged for murder.

Waiting for Jack Thompson to blame this on violent video games.
In 3... 2... 1...
Holy fuck. This is almost worse than if they blamed it (wrongfully its the parents fault) on games. Bad parenting in general don't get me wrong but...a keyboard.
Greatest freak out ever kid taken to the whole different level... to say the least - it's FUCKED UP!
Was "Thor" his favorite video game ?

same could happen with an mp3 player or a television. just depends on the kid's addiction. also why are you still making jack thompson references? he's completely irrelevant and is gone from existence at this point.
Hey, that just goes to show you, don't fuck with a gamers keyboard...
Hey, that just goes to show you, don't fuck with a gamers keyboard...
It could save your life...
I don't think the parents or games are at fault... The kid was just fucked in the head...
This is absolutely ridiculous.. Our generation is going to hell
I hope they put him down.
Clean up the gene pool. Darwin would want it that way. lol
Games? Parenting? Wth...sounds more like this kid has some kind of serious mental defect or emotion disorder. Smells like Autism to me.

How on earth can you know this was due to bad parenting?? To me it sounds like this boy had some kind of condition. Still just an assumtion though.
We all know how angry a kid can get when their parents take something away; it's happened to all of us.
But this is completely ridiculous. When one person is willing to kill another over a keyboard, especially his FATHER, he no longer deserves to live.
Kid should be beaten over the head WITH the keyboard until HE'S dead.
Spoilt little ****.
He should be hanged.
I don't know what is more sad about this story. The fact that a father is dead, a mother is now a widow, and a son will be in prison as a 14 year old child or you idiots coming on here making these outrageous comments. Some of you people just make me sick. Awful story and the first thing you can think of is defending video games and lambasting the parents.

He was against social natural selection...
But I am all for it!

We talked about putting the kid down also...
Sounds like some sort of psychopathy from the way he doesn't feel remorse for (over)killing his father.
Stuff like this is not new - the modern media just makes it easier to widely disseminate such stories, and makes them seem to be more frequent or horrible. It is certainly tragic, but humans are still violent and often irrational critters - remember Lizzie Borden?
Mother's got some stones, though; giving the keyboard back, then waiting for the kid to fall asleep before calling for help takes some moxie...
He must have been playing as a scout on TF2 and never snapped back to reality.
I wonder what game he was playing...hope it wasn't something retarded like the Sims
Wish the US was like Russia in penalty respects. A lot of younger kids I would say 14 or so that can get away with murder by not being able to be tried as an adult.
you have to think, the parents shouldve seen this kind of incident coming. nobody would do this out of the blue. there had to have been signs. not saying the dad deserved it, i dont know the mans history, but if he was even half aware of his son, he wouldve known the kid was going to do something
He was against social natural selection...But I am all for it!
I think it's all the same. We're animals too, after all. Whether an animal kills another over food or for revenge for killing one of it's own kind... makes no difference.
THAT SAID.......
I don't think it's the games fault, or the parents. Some kids are just mentally ill to begin with. Good parenting doesn't undo a chemical imbalance.
I blame Red Faction: Guerrilla. And the parents. And society. And Steve Jobs.
People are killed every day for lesser reasons...
I hope my wife doesn't read this...her whole "we're living in the end times" speech will be sure to follow...
I got my keyboard taken away plenty, so i learned to use the on screen keyboard in win2k to type while keyboardless not do crazy stuff.
Waiting a week is too much. You have to notice those things earlier. Every day you have to discipline your child, not once a week or month. You get to play x hours and that's it. Set the limit before play, not after a week of play.
It's not the first case I've heared of. Here in my town something similar happened. The victim was the mother and the boy had about the same age. He's locked in a white jacked and a specialized hospital.
It seems parents don't understand the power of games or the possible danger in young people.
This happens when the parents are too occupied in solving the material needs while their kids are receiving street (or virtual street) education.
Anti-gaming lobbyists will eat this up. They will jump on the idea of "the games made him do it" just a quick as others jump on "he had crappy parents". In truth, it's probably a combination of both. Now before you start flaming, let me explain. The fantasy world of video games is just that - fantasy. But without a parental figure explaining to the child that what is portrayed in video games is not real and not always ok, then what is to stop them from acting on what they see? Nothing. I don't believe that guns (or in this case sledgehammers) are any more responsible for killing people than video games are. You need a strong parental influence to educate and instruct young people on how to control their actions, emotions and impulses that result from an external stimulus (video games). Violent video games are out there, but they are designed for mature audiences for a reason. Parents who purchase them for their kids and don't follow up with appropriate guidance are only asking for trouble.
