Moonflex Music Pillow Features Built-in Speakers

Better than earphones or headphones?

From UK retailer Boys Stuff comes the Moonflex Music Flexible Pillow, which is basically a soft cigar crammed with a speaker on one end. A 3.5mm jack is ready to plug into a variety of gadgets, while the pillow's tubular construction makes it ideal as a head and neck rest. Thankfully, a volume dial is built-into the jack cable.

This gadget supposedly makes headphones obsolete, since the music comes out next to one ear. And the pillow's malleable shape apparently allows usefulness in multiple scenarios. "Use it on your laptop when working on your laptop", Boys Stuff suggests.

But does the Moonflex have much use in mass transit situations? Sure, headphones or earphones can feel uncomfortable after an hour or so. But they still keep your music private. Aside from not disturbing other people on the bus, train, or plane, you wouldn't want others hearing your Britney Spears collection, do you?

Another consideration is that small external speakers simply can't beat the audio quality of earphones and headphones (or at least, good ones). It's plan physics: situated directly over the ears, headsets need less power and space to deliver booming bass and clear treble.

Perhaps the Moonflex Music Flexible Pillow is designed for more private transit situations, for users who enjoy the benefits of chauffeured transport. If that's the case however, what's wrong with using the car's audio system?
