3. Setting Up

The installation of Logitech's Wireless Music system is pretty simple. Just plug the transmitter into a USB port and install the software, then plug the power supply into the receiver box and hold the button on both devices for approximately 10 seconds to initiate the link mode. The software running on the transmitting PC will then show you the receipients it discovers after a few seconds. We recommend giving each recipient a distinct name, since the Logitech software will only number devices consecutively.

The software is not very complex and basically allows for selecting the audio output it uses and the audio player it responds to. Depending on the number of audio devices installed, you can choose different playback options. In our case, we installed a Wireless Music receiver box (called Stationary in the screenshot below), and a Wireless Headset. The 'My Computer' setting in the Default Audio Device tab will activate the default audio device.

An important limitation is that you can't simultaneously have two outputs active, which means that you can either transmit your music to a Logitech receiver, or send it to your computer's audio out, but not both. This one-at-a-time limitation also applies to wireless receivers, which means you can forget about supplying music to multiple rooms at once.

Selecting a Media Player

Once your receiver and transmitter are paired, you can control the transmitting media player via a supplied infrared remote, or the same controls located on the receiver itself. Since neither the receiver nor remote have a display, you'll need to be familiar with the playlist being streamed to find a song you want. The controls on both include Volume and Mute, as well as Stop, Play/Pause, and Next and Previous Track.
