So the interweb is buzzing with news of Apple's acquisition of Liquidmetal Technologies Inc., and what potential consumer electronics applications the corporate purchase will lead to. The former NASA partner is famous for a namesake malleable element that turns into an ultra-strong alloy once it sets.

Here’s an advertisement from Omega that showcases Liquidmetal’s special property. The material is forced into the intricately constructed spaces of a Seamaster’s ceramic bezel, cooling into a very hard frame marketed as tough enough for underwater environments—and daily wear and tear watches need scratch-proofing against.
