Israel Unbans iPad; Releases 20 Back to Owners

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

iPad's been cleared for Israel.

Earlier this month, we reported that Israeli government officials blocked imports of Apple's then-just-launched iPad device. According to the site, the Communications Ministry is behind the banning, and has even directed customs authorities to confiscate all tablets if brought into the country.

The problem with the device stemmed from its wireless technology and international standards. Travelers going into Israel were forced to surrender their iPads, but that finally changed over the weekend.

On Sunday, April 25, the Communications Ministry said in a statement, "Following the completion of intensive technical scrutiny, Israel Minister of Communications Moshe Kakhlon approved the import of (the) iPad to Israel."

The nation will now allow one imported iPad per person. The ministry is also releasing the 20 iPads that have been confiscated during the ban.

for coop, our military uses a lot of frequencies that are used today by the wi-fi gadgets. thats why any new device must be tested for interference against a wide range of communication devices... if apple would just sent us an early model for testing it would`nt had to come to that. :(
Peace

They don't even need mobile phones, most of them are crazy and fanatical enough to strap the bombs to themselves. :(

I don't think it was the iPad itself, but rather the data transmission frequency.

iPads are literally "HOT" and suspected to be potential explosives.

I don't know, maybe for an antisocial it is not how much the device cost but if they will blend in the environment and allow to hack any network or effectively use it as a detonators. So its up to the authorities there to create awareness of any new device and technology and let everybody know those "inoffensive" gadgets are within their radar. It is great to know if the iPad could create any interference on an airport in Israel but the iPad is a derivative from the iPhone and may behave like one. That may had helped authorities there to release the iPads in a short time.

It's the communication regulator. No more than that.

1st duke of marlborough :
Could easily be used to detonate bombs. Remember, Israel is surrounded by angry Muslims hell-bent on seeing the Jewish state crumble into fiery oblivion. Can't blame the Israelis one bit for their caution.

Wait... are you out of ur mind? Israel is the oppressor... the innocent ppl of Palestine are being oppressed and you talk as if Israel has nothing to be blamed for and is somehow the "innocent one" ? wtf ?
