Like Fujitsu's Lifebook P1510D the Libretto might get temporarily lost in a larger backpack and would fit nicely in a small carry bag or purse. And you'll certainly have fun amazing your friends with its size and functionality.
With its small keyboard, we only wish the Libretto had either the basic stylus or Microsoft Windows Tablet PC capabilities available with in two different models of Fujitsu's P1500 Lifebook family. The stylus makes the Lifebook so much more functional for browsing the Web and other tasks involving a lot of mousing around. And, Tablet PC takes the tiny Lifebook to new heights by allowing stylus-based text input as well as input via voice recognition.
It was the lack of these capabilities that prevented our giving MobilityGuru's Editors Choice Award to the Libretto. Toshiba is certainly well placed in the Tablet PC world and we hope the company seriously considers reworking the U100 and adding this functionality to a future ultra small offering.
Classifying The Toshiba Libretto U100-S213
As the table below shows at MobilityGuru we classify portable computers with great care. Unlike many manufacturers and product reviewers we don't call everything a "notebook" or a "laptop." That's because we believe you should be able to tell something about the portability of a portable computer without having to look up size and weight details in a features table. Sure, we give you the details, but we also include significant size and weight information in such descriptive terms as "standard laptop" or "ultra lightweight laptop."
| Type of Mobile Computer | Weight (Pounds) with standard battery | Size (Width & Depth Inches) |
|---|---|---|
| Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) | Less than 2.5 | Fits in standard size pocket |
| Ultra Lightweight Laptop | 2.5 or less | Does not fit in standard size pocket |
| Lightweight Laptop | 2.6 to 4 | NA |
| Standard Laptop | 4.1 to 6.5 or less | 13 x 11 |
| Notebook | Over 6.5 | Over 13 x 11 |
