iPad Helps Lawyer in Courtroom in Winning Trial
Now all we need is Phoenix Wright ported to the iPad.
The iPad isn't only finding its way into schools, hospitals and ordering systems, but now a lawyer has found a good use for it in the court room.
Peter Summerill, partner in the Utah law firm of Hasenyager & Summerill, said that the iPad has helped him win a recent trial, according to CNet.
Summerill has a blog called MacLitigator, which chronicles the use of Apple computers by lawyers, where he wrote about his experiences with the iPad. In his most recent update, he detailed how he used the iPad in the courtroom.
By using the iPad hooked up to a projector with the VGA connector and the Keynote presentation software, Summerill was able to present exhibits in a quick manner that he feels was more efficient than using a traditional laptop. In fact, his MacBook sat at the counsel's table relatively unused throughout the trial.

cool?
So, the iPad is capable of showing a presentation. Good for it I suppose, but seriously, laptops do the job just as well. This guy is probably just an idiot since he doesn't know how to hook a laptop up to a VGA cable.
The arduous task of pressing the space bar to advance slides has finally been made more efficient!
"MacLitigator, which chronicles the use of Apple computers by lawyers"
...seriously, does it need to be that hardcore? It's not like it was just a spur of the moment thing. Seeing as he runs the site, he obviously did this for the publicity, which tom's graciously gave him.
Someone please tell me why this gets a headline at Tom's? Because, you know, I thought Tom's catered to PC users. Guess I was wrong.
I was hoping for something a little more exciting, but I suppose whatever gets the job done the way you like it is what you're going to use. Glad he likes it.
This just in: Man set free by iPad murders 1200 people. News at 11.
he's a lawyer (FULL STOP)
i love my iPad but this article has to be a joke right? when you have to write, "see, it can do things well!" it just makes it look even worse. iPad jailbroken? cool. it was actually helpful to know it was out. iPad used by someone we dont know nor care about for the purpose it was released? um, keep it to yourself.
Lawyer (FULL STOP)

Most lawyers are NOT very technical.
I am willing to bet that the iPad had 0% effect on the trial, unless the jury liked shiny things. "mmmm shiny!, Not Guilty. Now come here you sexy iPad let me lick you".
Next in the news "1990 era phone helps teenagers order pizza. Old Tech is on the revival!"
You guys are missing the point to this post, as well as those like it. It's a comedy post to make us laugh at the audacity and stupidity of mac users. Its like those AT&T response commercials with Luke Wilson.
It just shows the insecurity of Apple and how hard it must try to be considered a viable option instead of just being a gimmic/toy.(That typically does things wrong...mainly corporate related)
OMG A website that writes about Apple products used by lawyers wrote about an Apple product being used by a lawyer!
Been there. Done that... starting over a decade ago.
First was a PDA with a downloaded PowerPoint assisted by a device called the Pitch Duo, then with a Sony UX handtop. Apple gets credit once again... for arriving to the party late and doing things that others have done passively well.
OMFG next they will say an ipad helped land a crippled airplane all by itself, who fucken cares if someone won a lawsuit, what about the millions of cases a laptop (PC based) has solved
it helped him no more than his suit, his shoes, or his laser pointer to point at the presentation did.
might as well say "electricity helped lawyer win trial!"
by the use of the power outlet supplied in the room, the lawyer was able to hook up a projector and present slide to you jury, and in turn the power supplied helped him win the case.
correct statement would be "lawyer uses Ipad in trial, and by 'beyond a reasonable doubt' and due proccess the case was settled. the Ipad played no role in the verdict.
toms hardware has been going down the drain in the last year, Apple and Nvidia have lined thier pockets very deep i suspect, time to go looking for more "middle ground" tech sites, ill stop coming here i think
The headline was meant to be: [need I add Unscrupulous] Lawyer Shamelessly Promotes His Blog, Tom's Hardware Helps
In other news, the sky is blue and water wet
When I read the headline I was thinking it was some amazing bit of tech that the iPad had that won this trial. Hooking up to a projector is like praising a dog for pooping. Not even outside, just in general.
Could you please stop posting every piece of pseudo-processed-news/Apple merchandising that has to do with the iPad? Haven't seen one yet by myself but I'm already fed up of it.
Would this be news if the lawyer had used a 'regular' smartphone with HDMI/TV out? I don't think so...
Most lawyers are NOT very technical.
Generally, any lawyer with a technical degree prior to the law degree goes into patent law and generally try to avoid trial situations. There is less competition, there are way more lawyers with a history major than an engineering one, and far more money.
@dirtman73 - Well, it's a technology/computing site, so Apple is covered too. Granted, the importance of a lawyer with a pro-apple blog using apple products in a courtroom making headlines does seem like a slow news day.
I blame this stupid story on him being mormon. This is quite usual here in Utah (I live here). A lot of it is news because everyone is mormon here. I wonder if Toms's editors are mormon?
No this IS a story. I read that no PC (or mac for that matter) has ever won a case in court it takes the magical iPad to do it, hang on. No, it was the other way around EVERY case has used a PC wether they won or lost. FFS this iPad SH*T is just getting on my nerves
Applaud Toms. Fantastic journalism. Top notch.
Can someone please tell me what these things are really FOR? srsly i do NOT get it.
How on earth did a shiny oversized touchscreen become what seems to be one of, if not the greatest thing on this planet?
A great lesson about modern society..
Another lawyer that I won't hire!
I really don't see how this made it easier to show his presentation. There are lines of presentation devices that one can easily fit in their hand and use it to discreetly use to change slides while allowing them the freedom to use complex hand gestures at the same time, most have a built in laser pointer too. Who knows, maybe Mac is not compatible with any of them in which case it may have made a slight difference in comparison to the Macbook.
iPAD helps man cook dinner.
My cookbook kept closing on me and I needed use of both my hands. Fortunately my iPAD was heavy enough to keep the cookbook open so I could read the recipe.
