This Android Tablet Has Built-In QWERTY Keyboard
The FCC has just approved a tablet the sports a built-in QWERTY keyboard mounted under the display.
So far we've seen a tablet with a detachable, add-on keyboard and a tablet with a slide-out keyboard. But how about one with a QWERTY keyboard built right into the tablet chassis itself? That's what Keen High Holding Limited has done with the WR780 Wi-Fi Ebook Android tablet which just won an approval from the FCC on Thursday.
For now details are limited, but the device will sport a 7-inch TFT LCD screen with a default resolution of 800 x 480, and Android 2.1 Eclair. The model seen in a leaked photo reveals a black, rounded frame and the QWERTY keypad integrated below the display. There's also an integrated stand that can be used to prop up the WR780 vertically.
So far pricing and availability is unknown, but we expect the device to be at an entry-level price point to combat against Amazon's lesser Kindle models. The use of Eclair also points to the tablet's limitations in regards to running Android apps like Dungeon Defenders and Plants Vs. Zombies. The label "Ebook" in its name even seems to indicate it may only be suitable for light internet browsing and reading digital books.

Ugliest keyboard on the planet. Then again, as a reader you shouldn't be using it very often.
good concept. still, it looks like an oversized motorola phone(forgot which model).
"a tablet the sports..." do you people even read over the articles you post? I mean CMON its in the freaking subtitle.
Really ugly, reminds me of one of those things that kindergarten kids play with....

Then you haven't seen the commodore pet or the ZX Spectrum.
It's good that it has a built in keyboard, so you don't have to use or touch the screen.
Does Android 2.1 even support flash?
Loos like a landscape version of a Kindle
God wow? I saw the title went OOOH OHHH a tablet with built in keyboard... BAM in my face its ugly and doesn't seem useful. Hell even my basic Rumor Touch Phone has wayyy better QWERTY keys than that. What a shame =/
Great concept.
If someone would introduce a thin 7" Netbook it might steal the show. Still not keen on tablets but if that is the lightest weight device available that will have to do for my ultra mobile device.
the idea is great. but still it looks very ugly. not interesting getting one.
It's a great idea to have, because I don't like using the screen at all.
I'd be interested in hearing the comments of users of this keyboard. To me, it does not look all that useful.
Good one! Kevin Parrish keep up the good search for useful articles.
Great a tablet with a naff bolted on keyboard that doesn't even look like a standard format.
What's next a mobile phone with a built in carrier pigeon? It's neither flashy or useful really I would rather have a proper tablet with OSK, my phone or a netbook than this device by the look of it.
That's a good idea. Now people will be happy not to dirty their tablet.
Since the keyboard is always there making the device footprint larger, I think most people would just rather have a larger screen, or just go with a netbook/laptop.
It looks like something that third world nations would be distributing to poor communities.
