Dell uses the D505 model mainly to accommodate business users who seek a mobile PC to offer ample productivity and a maximum number of connectivity options for a reasonable price. As a business notebook, the Latitude D505 offers different flavors of Wi-Fi connectivity, including 802.11a, b and g options, in addition to wired options, such as Ethernet LAN, an analog modem and USB 2.0. The total price for the configuration that THG tested was $1,820.
We think that it makes sense to add a 48Wh secondary battery for $130, which almost doubles the battery life. There is space for it on the right side of the modular bay near the optical drive.
If you need additional connection possibilities such as PS/2, DVI, S/PDIF audio, then the Latitude D505 can be expanded into a full-blooded desktop PC replacement with an appropriate docking solution for $200.
