14. System Performance: Sysmark 2002
We first ran the Sysmark 2002 application benchmark with power connector on and the "Always On" power scheme. This guarantees that the system runs at maximum performance.

Because of its antiquated graphics solution and slower processor, it was clear from the outset that the PCG-Z1SP would lag behind the T40. That said, the performance on offer is more than adequate for general business needs.
Finally, we put them through their paces in battery mode with both power schemes, "Portable/ Laptop" and "MaxBattery." In the first case, Speedstep automatically regulates the processor's performance control; under the second setting, the CPUs in both systems run at the same speed.

These results also show that graphics subsystem performance has a decisive effect on overall performance. All that remains to be asked is whether day-to-day business really needs more performance.
