Sony's Tablet S Gets $100 Price Cut
Sony is now offering its PlayStation-certified tablet $100 cheaper although the reduction might not be enough to compete with the Kindle Fire.
The nation's first PlayStation certified tablet, the blandly-named Sony Tablet S, has reportedly taken a hit in the price tag to move more units off the shelf. According to reports, the Android-powered tablet is now selling for $100 less across the board, costing $499 for the 32 GB version and $399 for the 16 GB version.
While sporting an unusual shape, the Sony Tablet S has the advantage of providing native support for the Sony Entertainment Network which includes Music Unlimited, Video Unlimited and the PlayStation Network. Through Video Unlimited, users can either purchase or rent movies and TV episodes before they arrive at Blockbuster, Netflix or Redbox. Users can also purchase, store and stream music from the cloud thanks to the Android Market and Amazon MP3.
For those looking for a new tablet, the Sony Tablet S sports a Tegra 2 SoC, a 9.4-inch screen and a 1280 x 800 resolution. It also features 1 GB of internal memory, 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage, a front-facing 0.3MP camera and a 5.0MP rear-facing camera. Other details include 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, an SD card slot for adding additional storage, a Li-Ion 5000mAh battery, and support for IR remote control functions.
For gamers, the Honeycomb tablet also provides access to PlayStation classics like Crash Bandicoot, MediEvil, Destruction Derby, Syphon Filter and more. Still, in a post-Kindle Fire world, even PlayStation certification may not help prevent the Sony Tablet S from suffering sluggish sales while consumers flock to Amazon's new $199 Android-based tablet. There's a lot of Amazon bang for the buck, and could push Sony into taking additional price cuts to keep the Tablet S revenue flow moving.

announced right after a announcement for a ipad2 price cut.... hmm
announced right after a announcement for a ipad2 price cut.... hmm
Which announced iPad 2 price cut would that be?
Why are they dropping prices of equipment that really has a very small market? Can't they drop CPU prices by a 100 bucks, that'll see a 10 to 20% rises in CPU sales I bet.

What CPU does Sony make?
Are you people fucking serious?

Apple did not announce a price drop. It is just some people, who are believed to be in the know, are guessing that. Kind of like all those people in the know talking about the iPhone 5 a few months ago with the larger screen and all. And the same ones talking about the 2 versions of iPhone we were going to get as well. Point is, it could happen but nothing official has been announced.
If they wanted some real money, they should release their Playstation store to more devices.
Greedy pigs want an exclusive device or two, I already own an Android tablet and phone what the hell makes them think I'm going to buy another one of either just for the playstation store?
Then again.. First adopters of tablet devices might see this as a good device I guess..
100 usd? it is affordable for the customer

You answered your own question. They keep CPU prices because you're buying them at that price. They're dropping these prices because you aren't buying them at the old price. AMD will likely drop BD prices because no one wants to buy them, but Intel will keep i5 prices because everyone buys them. Plus, Sony can still profit off the software on their services, whereas selling you a CPU offers Intel/AMD no further profit.
Sony, I don't need your OPed On Demand trash and PSSuite is a flop with few games. Call me when you drop your prices down to everyone else's since you aren't offering me anything different.
Too weird of a shape, and the transformer prime is def worth +$100
It is now only 300 dollars too high yay.
Sorry even at $399 it is still at least $100 overpriced. Had one in hand and it felt like a cheap plastic POS. Heck the Kindle Fire feels premium compared to the Sony Tablet S!!
Sounds like a $500 MP3 player to me :-)
Uh, a bit out of my price range I'm afraid.
At that price I'd rather buy a laptop and have actual computing features under my fingertips.
I have one and it has replaced 5 remote controllers on the living room table!
And I can also check internet. A real gem! And works great.
yeah, I'm not a fan of the shape, but I like the PlayStation-certified and the IR functionality. But that is not enough to draw me to it. if it were $299 I might bite, but I'd still really have to think about it.
I think my money instead is going to go towards the Transformer Prime Mini (7") coming out at the end of this month. I think it will be the perfect size to hold in one hand and have all the specs I really want.
