Smart Plate Provides Digital Nutritional Info

Designer creates futuristic plate that provides easy access to instant digital nutrition information.

Industrial designer Hannes Harms has created "Nutrismart", an interesting concept in its prototype stages that is designed to give users access to detailed nutritional information to help stay healthy and fit. The device utilizes embedded RFID tag technology in order to keep track of food that has been eaten to provide complete and unique nutrition information.Nutrismart uses food with edible RFID tags that were initially developed by Kodak for medical purposes. Combining these edible RFID tags with the "smart" plate that features the RFID reader, nutritional information and dieting information is sent to receptive laptops, smartphones or other mobile devices with bluetooth technology.

In addition to providing essential nutrition information, the smart plate features LED indicators that will light up to warn users of important information such as a dish containing a certain allergen or undesired fat. With smart technology that is capable of keeping track of all of its users' nutrition information, Nutrismart is capable of creating complete and automated shopping lists to keep them eating healthy.
