1. Photos Over-The-Air
Here at Tom’s Guide, we like products that solve tech problems that get in the way of every day life. One such annoyance? The painful process of downloading your digital camera photos to your computer. Frankly, anything that requires wires can feel annoying, these days. If your computer has an SD slot, you can pop the photo card in and transfer that way, but even that seems more complicated than necessary. I want a plug-and-play solution that beams my images directly to my computer. Lucky for me, there are at least two competing technologies aiming to please me. Not so lucky: seems like one of those technologies is winning, and it isn’t the one I’m rooting for.
Perhaps you’ve heard of EyeFi, the company that makes a 2GB SD memory card with a Wi-Fi radio built into the chip. That card has been around since the fall of 2007, and has received accolades for its ease of use and novelty. In the year since its launch, the company has improved upon the wireless-uploads to PC concept and has brought in geo-tagging and the ability to upload directly to your social network and photo sharing site of choice (definitely a perk). The company also made announcements at CES: Soon, video uploads to YouTube will be supported by the platform. EyeFi is definitely a critic’s darling.
