Rock Band Getting LEGO-lized

Here comes yet another LEGO game.
LEGO is probably one of the most milked brands out there. You’ve got LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Indiana Jones, LEGO Batman and now we can add LEGO Rock Band to that list. Warner Bros. and MTV Games have confirmed they will release a version of Rock Band that incorporates the Lego universe, in time for the Holidays.
Hints were dropped about this at GDC. However, when we thought about it, it didn't seem likely. Sure it’d probably be hugely popular, especially among younger kids, but its production would involve participation from more than just Warner Bros. Interactive and MTV Games. It seemed like a lot of effort for something that was essentially Rock Band with LEGO instead of cartoons. LEGO Rock Band involves LEGO Group, MTV Games, Harmonix, Warner Bros., Travellers Tales (developers of all the LEGO games) and Backbone Entertainment and just as we suspected, is being marketed toward the younger demographic. According to the release:
LEGO Rock Band combines the multiplayer music experience of Rock Band with the fun, customization and humor of the LEGO videogame franchise packed with brilliant chart-topping songs and classic favorites suitable for younger audiences.
The games will appear on the Nintendo DS (not really sure how that's going to work), Wii, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. Users will be able to customize their Legomen, including band members, groupies, roadies, managers and crew. No details on pricing yet but the companies have released a list of just a few songs that will be featured in the game:
Blur - Song 2
Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting
Europe - The Final Countdown
Good Charlotte - Boys and Girls
Pink - So What
So, what’s the verdict? We can’t see many kids turning down LEGO anything but children aside, parents will likely love this completely G version of Rock Band too. The current versions of Rock Band are rated T for Teen. We can see a lot of kids asking for Rock Band for Christmas and getting the Lego version instead.

I guess this could be more "kid friendly," if their goal is to keep it rated G. Are we every going to see a Lego game where we just build shit? That's the Lego I know and love.

Back in the 90's we had (and I still have) Lego Island and Lego Creator. They still work in Vista (using compatibility mode for XP and dragging an old dll from XP into the Lego Island install directory). It would be nice to see remakes of these with improved graphics and more bricks and parts added.
So I guess we won't be seeing The Divinyls - I Touch Myself in this game?
I really don't see the connection. Build songs with bricks?
No, you have to build your guitar out of lego's first in order to play it!!!
Whoa wait the original Lego Island still works in Vista? I couldn't even get that thing to run in 2000, much less XP (same with Creator). I'll have to try and load it up sometime for the memories.

Nephew is obsessed with Lego, guess what I'm going to be buying him for Christmas now
My 7yr old son loves everything Lego's but I dont see him enjoying this. He will be disappointed that they skipped over Lego Halo yet again.
LDraw is a good program to create with LEGOS
