Deal Between Google and Yelp Called Off

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

The all-but-signed-and-sealed deal between search giant Google and review site Yelp has apparently been called off.

Last week TechCrunch cited several sources that said Google was in final-stages negotiations to buy Yelp for over $500 million. However, this week, reports say the whole deal has fallen apart.

According to TC sources, the people at Yelp contacted Google over the weekend to say they weren't going to sell. Details as to why they suddenly got cold feet and walked away from the deal are thin on the ground.

Michael Arrington speculates that another big-name company like Microsoft or Apple came to Jeremy Stoppleman with an attractive offer, giving him the confidence to say no to Google. That said, information gleaned from sources so far suggests that Yelp will stay independent for the time being.

I don't see a single Advertisement anywhere on Tom's site. :)

Then again, it helps that I'm using FireFox with Adblock Plus 1.1.2 along with OpenDNS and that my system is completely clean.

Being courted by Google with a buyout offer, what a great way to boost your stock price. Hrmmm, makes you wonder if someone was running a pump and dump.
