DROID 4 In The Works, Codenamed Maserati
Sounds like the upcoming fourth-generation DROID smartphone will be super-fast like the Maserati GranTurismo sports cars.
It should come as no surprise that the next Motorola Droid is already in the works. While the company hasn't announced anything official, rumors indicate that the company has codenamed the device "Maserati" which is supposedly derived from the name of the famous Italian sports car brand Maserati GranTurismo. That said, the Droid 4 sounds extremely "fast."
So what are the specs? Again, there's nothing official, but rumors point to the typical DROID slide-out QWERTY keyboard (but sans the D-pad again), a screen somewhere around 4 to 4.3-inches, a removable battery and possible 4G LTE support. And as with the previous three DROID models, this fourth-generation installment will reside on Verizon Wireless.
Unfortunately, that's it in regards to new information. The current Droid 3 smartphone sports a dual-core SoC clocked at 1 GHz, a 4-inch qHD (540 x 960) TFT display, 512 MB of internal memory, 16 GB of on-board storage, a microSD card providing 32 GB of even more storage, an 8MP camera, Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" and more. That said, consumers will see superior specs in the Droid 4, possibly even Nvidia's Tegra 3 "Kal-El" SoC (that's just a guess) and Google's Android "Ice Cream Sandwich" OS.
With the holiday season just around the corner, it wouldn't be surprising to see this phone rear its head before the end of the year. If not then, perhaps during the Mobile World Congress 2012 event in February.

oh yeah, my bad i meant a Mortola like droid phone. not awake yet.
They are called a Droid because they all run anDROID. With Google owning Motorola's cell division, you'll never see one if those phones running Windows.

Google is not apple..
Google. compete with technology no, by closing the system and monopolizing the environment..
they could do without any problem.
Cue lawsuit for using the Maserati name without permission.
Plz release a Droid device with WP7 Mango!!
An'Droid how do you not get that?
Named after an overpriced Italian sports car with questionable quality and reliability....not the best of marketing moves, IMHO. However, I'll wait until I see the facts before throwing them under the bus.

why?....is there a need for such a device?...i think not!!!
when they said super-fast...does it means it won't lag? ;-)
battery life?
I hope not. I just bought a Droid 3! I'd be purdy darn steamed if the next iteration comes before year end.

Maserati one of the oldest car companies... one of the best in the world... and yet you dare to call it overpriced.... and even more you dare to question the quality and the reliability.... FYI for good quality of interior and mechanics it takes time and resources.... and those two things are not cheap...
battery life?
This! I'd LOVE an LTE phone but am quite content to stick with my DroidX until we see battery life improve on LTE handsets.
Dual core? Over 9000gHz? Doesn't mean much if you're constantly teathered to a socket.
Amazing specs? Those are nothing special...we've already got Android models with 1280x720 screens and 1.5GHz dual core processors. The only advantage these Droids may have is the Kal-El quad core.

The draw to them is their physical keyboard.
I find the Droid 3 keyboard to be pretty fantastic.
I like the idea of the 4.3 inch screen for the successor though..
i got an Ally and battery on phones suck i always get the extended battery which is kinda big but it dont matter when my android battery lasts 2 days i wish they would come out with a battery to run the computer for at least 3 or 4 days that would be awsome but the processors are overpowering nd they drain batteries i like the speed so just get faster but try to make better batteries i guess but until then just make sure i can upgrade to my fat oversized extended battery thank you haha
Too bad it's on Verizon and everybody's switching to Sprint or T-Mobile.
