We've all dreamed of being an astronaut at one point or another. Now, thanks to Craigslist, you too can see space. As long as you're willing to die/not come home once you arrive on Titan.

Attention all aspiring astronauts in northern Alberta, Canada. If you're in need of $25,000 and have "perhaps a terminal view on life here at home," then this is the job for you.

The poster claims to have built a spacecraft that will take you on an experimental flight to Titan. The man says he served the U.S. military in advanced aeronatautics as a scientist and spent the better part of forty years working on this machine. Unfortunately, he is now too old/unfit to go himself. It's perfectly safe you understand; he's just too old.

"The craft harnesses a revolutionary propulsion system and its fuselage is fabricated with the most advanced material. While considerably safe, I am certain you will make it safely to Titan but there will not be enough fuel to get home. This is for someone unique that has always wanted to see the universe first-hand and has perhaps a terminal view on life here at home. Here's your shot at romantic history."

Right. So what do you get? Well, $25K and a trip to space. You have to be physically fit, quite slim in build (we're assuming there's only room for one), and no taller than 5'10". You should also be mentally sound. I guess because at least one person taking part in this project needs to have all of their marbles in the one bag. Otherwise no one would ever sell them the rocket fuel. My advice? Ask for the $25K up front.

[UPDATE] Some kill-joy with a case of the Monday's has flagged the ad for removal. Unfair? Yes.

I wonder what $25,000 would be worth on Titan, i'd have to consider the risk/reward for the trip, what if the exchange rate is horrible by the time i get there???

Titan is a lot like Earth, although colder. Methane rivers and rain. I've often wondered why the methane just doesn't burn up, especially since there is lightning. Must be too cold. But, if you could land there, and find a way to create breathable air, you'd have an endless amount of fuel to keep warm.

On the plus side, you'd have a greater chance of finding intelligent life there than on Earth. Also, you might get to fly by Jupiter, and get charged up by the magnetosphere (it's probably very invigorating, if you're a hydrogen ion) You'd get to see Saturn's rings pretty close. But, most likely, you'd be kissing Uranus good bye when you plunged into Titan.

This guy built the rocket, but he didn't mention anything about a really warm coat. I'm not going there without it

I'm more curious as to what he would want you to do once you got there. Send back data? Collect samples that can't be shipped back? Orbit it for the hell of it till you die? Wouldn't this be almost considered assisted suicide?

How long would it take to get there at warp 9? It would really suck to get there and find out that the Klingons beat us to it.

It would take 8.84762503959671358370512279589 seconds to reach your destination at warp factor 9.

I'm considering it. But does the ship have a holodeck, phasers and a shield? I dont want the Borg to stop me from completing the mission.

I for one, would think it's a perfect gift from a dying father to his family left behind.
There are plenty of people I know with cancer, that will go sooner or later.
Without proper life insurance this could be a small help for the family to still be able to live a year or two without worries.

though, I think he'd have more success in Africa or Asia, where pilots used to do Kamikaze for honor instead of pay!
They died, and left their family with nothing.

Silly, space cash only has a value that you assign to it. What we really need to do is take a pinewood derby car and discover warp speed

phasers are a good idea - but it sounds like there are enough things that could go wrong even without a holodeck.if startrek has taught us one thing - holodecks are asking for trouble.
