Burglars Caught By Pic Taken on Stolen Phone

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

Technology has gotten the better of one burglar who stole an Android phone from a house in Portland, Oregon.

At least two men broke into a house in Portland and robbed the couple who lived there. Among the electronics and other bits and pieces stolen, was a Motorola DROID. The criminals snapped several photographs after the robbery and shortly after, these photos ended up in the hands of local police.

What the thieves didn't know was that the owner of the phone had installed a third party application called Lookout. The app automatically backs up all photographs to a server each night so when the couple saw the photos, they were able to pass them on to police.

According to the Wilsonville Spokesman, the photos led to the arrest and charging of one of the suspects, a 15-year-old boy. Police believe there may have been others involved and are still investigating.

Good call from the user of the phone. Using Lookout (or any remote backup system on a phone) is one of the best options if you have an unlimited internet usage plan..

What shocked me is 15 years of age!
When I was young burglars where in their 20's or 30's.
I'd say give him a severe beating that he won't forget!
No money to put that scum into jail; a good old fashioned hard-hand lesson will teach him!

The police would obviously not release those pictures. I'm rather surprised they released the ones they did.

Bottom-left picture. It's blurry, but you can see a face.

Soooooo according to the photos, police began searching for a very low-resolution indivitual that, from the photos, we can tell has two hands and a head?

It's illegal to release information about minors, especially their names, so of course the police aren't going to release the "real pics".
