Skype Finally Hits Verizon Wireless Thursday
Skype mobile is finally heading to Verizon Wireless.
Tuesday Version announced that Skype mobile will finally land on the wireless service on Thursday, March 25. The roll-out will start with nine Verizon Wireless 3G smartphones: the BlackBerry Storm 9530, Storm2 9550, Curve 8330, Curve 8530, 8830 World Edition, and Tour 9630 smartphones, as well as DROID by Motorola, DROID ERIS by HTC and Motorola DEVOUR.
Verizon customers can head here and here on a PC to receive a text message with a link to the application. Subscribers can also text "SKYPE" to 2255 to receive the link. Android owners can bypass all that linkage and simply download the app straight from Android Market. New BlackBerry customers will find the application on their 3G smartphones’ home screens in the Downloads folder when activated.
"Skype mobile will change the way mobile consumers in the United States make and receive calls," said John Harrobin, senior vice president of digital media and marketing. "With an ‘always on’ capability, Skype mobile on your 3G smartphone means you never have to miss a call or make an appointment to connect with Skype users around the world. With Skype mobile, we’re untethering Skype users from their PCs and enabling them to stay connected – on the best wireless network in the country."
Consumers using third-party Skype clients like Fring and IM+Talk can now use the real deal. With the new mobile client, Verizon customers can make and receive unlimited Skype-to-Skype voice calls to any Skype contact around the globe, send and receive unlimited instant messages with other Skype users, manage the Skype contact list directly from the mobile application, and call international phone numbers at "competitive" Skype calling rates.

I'd really like to get my 2.1 update for Droid first!!!
Hmmm...world wide connection with other Skype users! Things are starting to get interesting.
I was using Skype on my Winmo phone 4-5 years ago
Limited phone support, no iPhone and no video...I'm staying with Fring
I'm just waiting for Google Talk with Voice Chat (and Video) for the Android.
