Xbox 360 Impressively Modified Into Laptop Form
If you're into modded Xbox 360s (and have a couple of grand to spare), you might want to check out the Xbox 360 laptop that's currently up for sale on eBay.
A couple of college kids on the benheck.com forums got together and decided to mod an Xbox 360 into an X-top laptop. The two are selling the product of their hard work on eBay and the bidding starts at $1,950. If you're thinking $2,000 is a lot to ask for a modded 360, then you've got to see just how much work went into building this machine.
-Brand new Xbox Elite Jasper (receipts included)
-Wireless Network Adapter
-Gateway 1775W 17" Widescreen (DVI input from the HDMI port on the 360)
-Audio board from desktop speakers wired to two low-profile speakers
-Completely custom hand-built case
-Small USB keyboard
-Xbox Live Camera
-VGA output option with selector switch
-Modified 12.1A power supply to power the entire beast with one simple cord
-120GB built-in harddrive with 12 months of Gold Live
If you're interested in seeing how it all progressed, read the blog documenting the entire thing from start to finish.
The eBay auction is open until March 25 and so far there have been no bids.

One question ... why?
One question ... why?
How else are you supposed to play modern warfare 2 on the go?
How else are you supposed to play modern warfare 2 on the go?
mobility radeon 4750 / GT 335 / 5750 + c2d/i5 on laptop = mw 2 on the go
One question ... why?
Another question: Why not?
I think it would be fun to do a project like this.
its bigger than a notebook its just less than a microatx form which you cant upgrade much.
Cool
It looks cool, I would mind having it.. until I saw that massive power brick sitting next to it.
Cool idea, but that keyboard doesnt look very comfortable
One question ... why?
Would you have asked that same question when somebody decided to make a laptop? Innovation and invention drives the world.
my question: when it goes all RROD on your ass, where is the RR?
lol thats not a laptop, it's a hernia waiting to happen
That's a really cool idea. It's like a truely dedicated gaming laptop D:
All that ability to do a fantastic mod, and they can't focus the camera for most of the video.
I stopped reading at "(and have a couple of grand to spare)"
Ha just kidding.
I would love to have that for when I'm traveling for work.
I was about to say it would be awesome to give it batteries for playing on a plane but somehow I don't think the airlines would let me carry on two car batteries to run that power brick. =P
Wouldn't it been better to get a LCD that had a HDMI port. So you could run the audio through the HDMI Port and through the monitor speakers and then just Modify it go through the low-profile speakers?

.
Would not touch a X360 without the safety net of having MS replace it for free when it eventually has RROD.
Pretty cool if you ask me...he buys a $300 Elite and turns it into a laptop that would cost a few grand in stores/online. I personally would buy it if I didn't just upgrade my mobo and ram.
in the listing he should have said "YES! this laptop CAN run crysis!" XD
I've seen this laptop. The student that converted/built it brought it to a career fair I was attending. It's a very impressive piece of work. The level of initiative and dedication this student showed was well above that of most students I've interviewed.

Sure, it may look bulky, but it's got everything you need to play your favorite X360 games on the go. Very cool piece of kit
This is an impressive piece of work! Will people quit making so many negative comments about Microsoft/Xbox 360/RROD and just be positive for once? The people involved with this should be commended for how much creativity and dedication they showed, not made fun of!!

Except it can't run Crysis because Crysis is PC exclusive. Also, what's the point of this. My laptop can run Crysis, its way smaller, probably lighter, can do more, and only costs $1000. What idiot would buy this?
I'm actually not a console player. I don't like consoles, but I am really impressed with this mod. Hopefully they got the cooling down properly. Unfortunately, I think the price is to high. I could see maybe 1200, but it's like buying an old laptop. For that $2000 I could buy a better laptop, or build A high end gaming desktop.

Nice mod though.
Ya, props to the makers. But now way would I pay that high of price for it. Hell you can get pretty decent gaming laptop for 1500$. Although I'm sure somebody will buy it, and then I got to give even more props to the makers lol.

i was wondering that myself. maybe they weren't happy with the sound quality of built in monitor speakers
for the price they better be offering free tech support for the device, including RRODs.
Its pretty cool, I personally would not buy it (only because I dont like xbox XD )... although too

So you can put a video card into a laptop? this is new too me....personally my laptop is too thin to fit one....
These guys did an awesome job. I think they deserve a good congrats. Although a lot of the posts seem to be more about knocking the idea which is stupid. Just because its a console doesn't make it some kind of scum.
Also there is a good chance that this will NOT RROD. The reason is that they said they used a new xbox (the RROD problem is suppose to be fixed) plus I would think they made sure they had plenty of cooling (RROD only happens from the system getting too hot and cracking the low quality solder).
The only part I dislike about their design is the power, I think they should have found a better way of powering the system (alteast try and put the supply inside....i know laptops dont even do this, but it would make it look a little nicer). But overall a great job.

wow u've been living in a cave to not realize that laptops have dedicated video cards in them.
How else are you supposed to play modern warfare 2 on the go?
Would you really want to play it on the go, when we can all think of far better games that we would love to have with us...
One question ... why?
I'm sure they asked Ben Franklin that too.
wow u've been living in a cave to not realize that laptops have dedicated video cards in them.
Well me start with where can you buy such video cards? Last time I checked there is nothing on normal sites like tiger/newegg about laptop video cards. Second I did not mean they dont have them at all, I ment that you can't really upgrade the laptop yourself. Thirdly most laptops do not use dedicated video cards, they use the graphic card's chip. The only way to get a laptop with an actual dedicated video card would be to pay WAY to much for it....
