Horror Movie Takes Direction From the Audience
Movies these days can be so predictable, can't they? Time to choose your own adventure.
Giz reports that Horror channel 13th Street wanted to give horror fans a movie that wasn't predictable; something that took audience participation further than, "Right, and how do you propose you're going to get down from the roof then?"
German movie, Last Call, is the first ever interactive horror movie. When you go into the theatre, you text your phone number to a speed-dial database. During the movie, the protagonist makes a phone call to a random audience member and asks their advice. "Should I go up or down?" "Left or right?" "Should I help the creepy man wrapped in bandages, rocking back and forth on the floor, or should I look out for myself?" Voice recognition software means the character identifies what the audience member wants them to do and follows his or her instructions.

EPIC! just think about a theater where audience silence is going to be weired.
Also, what if somebody kept getting the wrong advice to the character and he/she dies at the end, will people end up beating that person at the end (outside of the theater)???
popcorn is flying to a person who made a wrong choice
it's a horror movie, i doubt there is ever a "right" choice
I'll wait for the Choose Your Own Adventure novelization.

I don't think it sticks with one audience member for the whole movie but rather asks a new person with each question.
I'm glad they went with a system like this instead of having the whole audience vote every time or something, which would probably yield predictable answers.
this seems pretty cool. what about movies coming to dvd though? can you connect the same way to do it at home?
This beats current 3D movies. +1 for the idea
Its a horror movie always look out for yourself!
But if I take out my phone, I'll get stabbed with a meat thermometer...
Sounds like a cool idea..I think it's something I'd have to experience in order to see if it actually is good.
I love how the words"software" and "voice recognition" shudder in a creepy way in the intro. Because we all know that voice recognition software is as creepy as it gets.
HA HA HA...love the Mister Bean part...

No,
If you take out your phone, you will have to get your homies to stab whoever complains with a meat thermometer.
I will be in the middle of the call and my battery dies... then what???
Brilliant. I like her respond "Damn I need a new phone." Lol.
So much for turning your phone off in the theatre then....
However, the movie -must- have some kind of relation to cellular phones. What if it's an oldie movie? or something without phone?
FINALLY some good horror movies!
I'll wait for the Choose Your Own Adventure novelization.
lol, these already exist, I have a Goosebumps book that allows you to make your own choices and tells u to turn to certain pages that follow the choice u made.
But you're supposed to turn your phone off in a movie
I will be in the middle of the call and my battery dies... then what???
there is probably a fail safe scene that make the decision for you if you take too much time... something like "Hello, you there????... oh well i'll just go left then"
this seems pretty cool. what about movies coming to dvd though? can you connect the same way to do it at home?
I'm sure since it will probably be on Blu-ray that it will have a pop-up menu to make the decision.
This is an awesome idea. I love choose your own adventure sort of things. Hopefully the movie has drastically different endings depending on what choices are made, that way ppl will want to see it again.
Wait a sec, what if you don't get service in the theater? (AT&T,et al any one?)
Should Calculon drive to the fight at the fireworks factory in his rocket car, or should Calculon review his taxes?
id be like "SHOW ME UR TITS!"
great if your number gets picked but for everyone else its just another horror movie.....
id be like "SHOW ME UR TITS!"
That would be so awesome if that worked.
I hope they have something for when the immature 13 year-olds sneak in and start screaming "PENIS!" into the phone or whatever they say nowadays. Ur mom.
Anything you'll say on the phone, you'll still end up in a cliche. Interactivity won't make a movie better, but good writing, acting, directing etc. The directors should get up their asses and start to put some thinking into making a good plot.
Guess this will be a three in one movie, at least three times more expensive, and I guess the ticket will cost accordingly.
p.s How will you rate this movies?
