If your one of your holiday wishes is to dive into virtual reality, you can save a nice chunk of change on HTC's Vive headset. Starting early Friday morning, HTC will knock $100 off the cost of its popular VR headset, which normally will run you $799.
The Vive goes on sale at 2:59 a.m. ET on Nov. 25, or just as Thanksgiving is wrapping up on the west coast. The sale ends at 2:59 a.m. ET on Nov. 29, as the clock ticks toward the end of Cyber Monday.
In announcing its Black Friday sale, HTC said the $100 discount would go into effect both online and at retail locations that sell the Vive. Participating retailers include Microsoft Stores, Amazon, Gamestop, Newegg.com and Micro-center, as well as the online Vive store.
We like the Vive, with my colleague Sherri L. Smith declaring that the headset delivers an unrivaled VR experience in her review of the headset. In the battle of high-end VR headsets, we currently give the Vive a slight edge over the Oculus Rift.

Even with the $100 discount, a $699 purchase will put a dent in your bank account, and that's before you upgrade your PC to support the HTC Vive. (You can find out if your PC is VR-ready at Steam.) Still, if you were planning on getting a Vive this holiday season, getting it for $100 less than you would otherwise have to pay is still a pretty sweet deal.
The Vive headset isn't the only thing on sale at HTC between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Viveport, the store non-gaming VR apps will give customers a $10 credit for spending $30 or more in the store this weekend. Viveport is also offering a $5 bundle of Soundstage, Arcade Artist, and Lumen, and it's knocking 50 percent off the price of more than 20 VR titles.
