McDonald's has announced that its database has been hacked and the information of users who signed up to the company's website and for promotions has been stolen. According to Reuters, the information obtained by hackers does not contain Social Security numbers, credit card accounts or financial information but does include customer's email addresses and dates of birth.
The information was stolen when hackers gained access to computer systems operated by an unnamed database management firm hired by McDonald's long-time business partner Arc Worldwide.
"The incident has resulted in an investigation by law enforcement authorities. Arc and McDonald's are cooperating with the appropriate authorities," a company spokesperson told Reuters.
McDonald's has yet to disclose how many customers were affected by the breach.
