Germany are always amongst the favorites for any international tournament, but after not getting out of the group in 2018 and exiting Euro 2020 early, questions have been asked of this group of players. On paper, however, Hansi Flick has an incredible group of players to choose from. Champions League winners litter the squad and the likes of Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala are some of club powerhouse Bayern Munich’s best players. So too is Thomas Muller, a man with 10 goals in World Cups, more than any other active player in the world. The squad also contains some of the most exciting young players in the tournament with Borussia Dortmund’s attacking duo of Karim Adeyemi and 17-year-old wonderkid Youssouffa Moukoko.

This is a Japanese side that will have to do well to match their nation’s 2014 and 2018 round-of-16 finishes. In a group with Germany and Spain (as well as a solid Costa Rica) the Samurai Blue will need a result against at least one of the two big European sides. But manager Hajime Moriyasu does have some dangerous players in his squad. The side features a number of Japanese based players but fans of the top European leagues will be familiar with many of the squad. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Daichi Kamada, Arsenal’s Takehiro Tomiyasu, Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo, and Monaco’s Takumi Minamino all have plenty of experience against the world’s best. In fact, eight of the squad currently play in Germany’s Bundesliga so will be familiar with many of their opponents in this opening fixture.

With Group E set to be one of the toughest to call, every game matters and neither of these two teams can afford to start slow. The Germany vs Japan live stream should not be missed.

Here's how they lineup:

Germany: Neuer, Schlotterbeck, Sule, Rudiger, Raum, Kimmich, Gundogan, Gnabry, Muller, Musiala, Havertz.
