3 ways ChatGPT-5 outshines Gemini in AI image tests

AI image generators have come a long way, even in the last six months. With ChatGPT-5 and Gemini 2.5 Pro among the best image generators available, it's easy to see why the competition is heating up. The image quality continues to get clearer as the image output gets faster.

I ran nine image prompts through both systems, testing everything from photorealistic product shots to Impressionist paintings. While the results were clear that Gemini was the strongest among the two, ChatGPT-5 has some standout advantages.

Here are the three areas where ChatGPT-5 shines.

1. Artistic creativity and style

One of the standout features of ChatGPT is its ability to tackle artistic style with ease. When asked for an Impressionist oil painting of a Venetian canal at sunrise, ChatGPT-5 nailed the brushstrokes, lighting and mood. Gemini’s attempt looked more like a photo filter. If you want true creativity and expressive art, ChatGPT-5 delivers.

2. Humor and storytelling

In a comic-style astronaut realizing they forgot their helmet on Mars prompt, ChatGPT-5 leaned into the humor with exaggerated expressions and a cartoonish vibe. Gemini’s version was fine but flat. ChatGPT-5 shines when the prompt requires personality and narrative. For the above cartoon, I used the prompt: "Create a cartoon image of two cats joking about the weather."

ChatGPT just gets the context and what seems like intuition when it comes to crafting the best image for prompts that require humor.

3. Consistency across outputs

Whether it’s transforming users into superheroes or turning pets into people, ChatGPT-5 consistently gets the tricky details right. Faces look human without odd distortions and it has mastered hands with the right number of fingers.

ChatGPT offers proportions that stay believable across different prompts. That level of stability makes it easier to trust ChatGPT-5 for projects where accuracy matters such as social media posts or concept art.

In contrast, Gemini occasionally stumbled in our testing. Hands sometimes came out warped, objects floated in awkward positions or background elements didn’t quite match the scene. The results weren’t unusable, but they required more retouching.

If reliability and polish are your top priorities, ChatGPT-5 gives you far fewer surprises.

The takeaway

After running the same nine prompts through both chatbots, Gemini won overall, yet it’s clear that ChatGPT-5 has the edge when it comes to creativity, humor and consistent detail.

Gemini still shines in photorealism and technical accuracy, but if you want images that are imaginative, polished and less likely to need cleanup, ChatGPT-5 is the safer bet.
