7. Logging and Monitoring

Logging can be done to the web-based admin server or sent to a syslog stream. WatchGuard Security Event Processor logging (for Firebox users) is also supported.

The log is nicely formatted and can include all allowed Outbound traffic. Although you can clear the log from the admin interface, it can't be emailed or saved, nor are there any emailed alerts either.

I was surprised (and frustrated!) to find that tunnel setup information isn't included here or any place else in the admin interface. I had to rely on the Log Viewer function in the MUVPN client to see what was happening during my many tunnel setup attempts.

Finally, I may have missed it, but didn't see the ability to list attached clients on either the wired or wireless network segments.

Other Features

There aren't a lot of extra bells and whistles on the 6tcw besides being able to add ten static routes and enable dynamic DNS (for dyndns.org only). There's no dynamic routing support and no ability to block access to web proxies, cookies, and Java and ActiveX applets.

DHCP capability is also very basic, with no MAC address-based IP reservation or lease time settings. Curiously, you can enable DHCP relaying, which is handy in larger networks.
