WoW Diehards Hit Level 80

Blizzard Entertainment released its World of Warcraft expansion pack just a few days ago, but die-hard players have already completed most of the game. A French player reached level 80, the maximum attainable in the game, in just 27 hours and a European guild has already cleared out all the dungeons. However, some players have been banned from the game in their quest for glory.
The November 13th midnight launch of Wrath of the Lich King was a huge spectacle as thousands of players lined up at electronics and game stores throughout the world. Blizzard Entertainment also managed to ship copies of the expansion pack to United States military bases in Europe, Asia and even Iraq. As with previous launches of the game and the first expansion pack, The Burning Crusade, hard-core players race to level up their characters and kill dungeon bosses.
“Nymh”, a player on the French server Drek’thar, reached level 80 in just under 28 hours after the launch. He accomplished this inhuman feat by continuously killing monsters in a special area where they would respawn every thirty seconds. A buddy tagged along, just to mindlessly heal Nymh’s character.
Nymh initially had some great competition from another French player “Athene”, but Athene was banned by Blizzard after reaching level 79 in just 13 hours. Athene leveled quickly by entering a dungeon with all of his guild mates and then hitting every monster he could find. He would then leave the party and let his friends finish off all the creatures. Athene contends that there was nothing wrong with this and has even published a YouTube video showing his method. The video also has screenshots of a Blizzard employee assuring him that he would not get banned.
Getting to level 80 is one thing, but clearing out all of the instances/dungeons is an entirely different feat. The guild TwentyFifthNovember on the Magtheridon European server completed Naxxramas and killed Malygos in approximately two and a half days. TwentyFifthNovember is basically a “super guild” that merged members of SK-Gaming and Nihilum, both powerhouse guilds in their own right. The guild has received some flak on the World of Warcraft official forums for possibly cheating or exploiting their way through the content, but most of the guild members had completed the same content in the Wrath of the Lich King beta. Basically, the team is merely completing the content a second time.
As always Blizzard will add more content via patches in the coming weeks/months and the final battle with the Lich King, Arthas, will probably be added in a month or two. This probably won’t come fast enough for the folks at TwentyFifthNovember.

Yay, I can waste valuable hours of my life faster than anyone else in the world! Just think, one are only young one and you will never have those hours/weeks/months back! Hooray!
honestly whatever... most/all of TwentyFifthNovember had loads of time finding the ins and outs in Beta time. Saying that "Blizz" caved is a joke. Maybe next time these clowns should be shut out of all interaction with WoW until release. Saying they cleared the content in 3 days is BS. They cleared it in 4 months. And 4 months seems reasonable imo.
Sounds like "Nymh" needs to get a life. Seriously, who cares what level he is? I'm level 12 on Oblivion. Does anyone really care?

You are? HOLY SHIT MAN! You must be rich and get all the girls, oh wait. Your right, it doesn't matter!
Really these people are pathetic. They more they play the less of a life they have.
kami3k, I'll rate you +1 if you rate me +1. Then we can be online wieners together!
Sorry if that sounded a bit homosexual. So does reaching the OMG what you're a l33t lvl 80 in an old MMORPG with 20 expansion packs. Did Blizzard publicize this? I wouldn't.
"We would just like to brag about how we turn normal people into zombies, also known as 'video game addicts' to a growing number of psychologists. Our greatest creation, is "Nymh", a French no-lifer. He has never been laid, but he ascertains that he is not lonely, because his online clan and his mother have stood by him through all the battles he has faced. His dear mother has been bringing food to his office-chair side through all his encounters with near death, and by taking away his stools in a bedpan. In fact, the hit television series "South Park" has already done an episode detailing Nymh's incredible journey through cyberspace. If by some chance he should ever decide to put down our game and walk again, it will take years of therapy. Analysts predict that our hero "Nymh" will reach at least lvl 117 before his heart gives out due to lack of exercise so there may indeed be time to yet save his life. However, we would prefer it if he continued to play our game because we get a few bucks from his monthly subscription. We will further notify the world on this incredible man's battle against our game as updates happen. Stay tuned."
Edit: "and has been taking away"
I swear I proofread. I still think we need an edit button.
Haha, nice write up and yes a edit button is needed...
Does anybody really care?
I still remember when I played WOW. I stopped after I sat there one Friday night as my GF was getting ready to go the bar with her friends and I was going to stay in to run MC. It was then I sold my account and bought some rounds at the bar and havn't looked back. It's scary how many kids in college are staying in their dorm rooms and just playing this or other video games without any real life interaction being done.
To all the people who down-play the accomplishments of gamers.
The fact of the matter is that people like those in this article are the best at what they do. Very few people can claim that they are the best in the world at something. What these WoW players accomplished is insignificant to most people, but it's still extremely respectable because no one can do it better.
Saying that gamers like this have no life is equivalent to saying that Michael Phelps has no life, in my opinion. They both focus their time on 1 aspect of life and conquer it. Michael Phelps picked something that is significant to a larger population and thus overcame tougher competition, but both stand alone as a champion at what they do.

Nothing that these WoW players do is respectable. Michael Phelps actually has something to show for his hard work, OLYMPIC MEDALS. Not to mention respect, oh and money from all the ads he will be doing, etc.
These players are going to find respect from other idiots who play WoW or retards like you who think WoW players and Michael Phelps are the samething.
Also Michael Phelps actually worked hard at what he did, you never work hard in a MMO, nevermind WoW. All you do is sit on your ass for hours at a time waiting for a item to drop, etc. Big difference there.
Oh and how much is Blizzard paying you?
World of Warcraft is still around?
I guess I shouldn't be surprised...it has the same demographic as Sesame Street.
Dam it, was going to say "good for you man, fight the power" to rdwestgate and what I said above to mcgste.
And yes WoW as 11 million players, though it's probably like 7 million Asians now...
You have to try hard to be the best at something. Do you honestly think that the first level 80 and first guild to beat the all of the content in this expansion sat on their ass for hours at a time waiting for an item to drop?
I threw a big name like Michael Phelps to illustrate my point. Phelps is in a totally different league.
Does it really matter what these people do with their lives? Please, tell me what you all accomplish besides spending time on blogs posting meaningless and worthless comments.
I regularly play WoW 1-2 hours a day with friends and my wife. I have an associates degree and work full time with a medical staffing agency, and my wife is working on her nursing degree. We have an appartment, 2 new cars, and an awesome dog. Does WoW make us worthless and lackluster with our life accomplishments? I think the people needing to get a life are the ones who continue to bash the achievements of others. The world has changed, welcome to the digital age... Oh wait, you all still live in the dark ages.

Lol at "sp33d" You seem to forgot we are talking about people who spent day and night playing WOW. Not what ever else they are doing, and it's obvious they spend more time playing WoW then anything else in their lives. And for that do not have a life beyond WoW. You however do.
Doing anything in WoW is not a accomplishment. It's just doing something, unless you are so pathetic you would actually be proud of something that screams "hey look, I just proved I'm the biggest loser around?"
I see "sp33d" and mcgste, just don't get it. And that either can't read. Mcgste, notice how I said ",etc." aft the item drop? Oh wait I forgot you can't read.
I wasn't going to list all the activities you can do in a MMO. BTW, none of which is something to brag about unless you are pathetic and want to increase the size of your epeen.
The only thing you need "sp33d" is to you learn to read and understand what you read, same with you mcgste.
Playing WoW is no more a waste of time than anything else... people do play it too much, but they value different things.
For example, I like the rest of you are wasting time making this post on the internet... But I don't care, I like reading and posting on the internet.
To the people that say WoW accomplishments do not matter. I say accomplishments are something that you value as an individual. Just because you do not get paid for and accomplishment or get respect for it does not make it any more/less valuable then another.

Accomplishments make YOU feel good at the end of the day; not someone else. So to those that feel good playing WoW 20 hours a day, good for you. To those who like being the best basketball player and making millions of dollars, good for you too. Whatever makes you happy.
Ever hear of making a contribution to society? If you're not, you're a hindrance to it.
I'd much rather someone sit on an MMO and make a null contribution to society than a negative one. They are not a hindrance. Sure they aren't adding much to the state of the world, but they aren't hurting anyone either. If you don't approve of their lifestyle that is your business, but to call them a hindrance seems a bit odd.
I'd also guess that many of these extremely competitive players have jobs and lives as well. Much of it is a work smarter not harder mentality, so they likely don't spend as much time as you think in the game. They are just making good use of the time they spend.
Regardless even if they are useless zombies in all aspects of non-WoW life I like them. They pay a monthly subscription to the company and the company uses the money to make some great games outside of WoW that I really enjoy playing. So bring on the zombies and the Diablo 3!
Lol i love the people with -1 rep right here are the ones who actually try to prove a point instead of just going with the crowd... Sure I think they are losers... But they don't think they are losers... And who are we to judge someone a loser? Who gives us the power to judge other people unfit for society... really... who do we think we are?
why live? what possible purpose do we serve?
I long ago came to the conclusion:
I am a finite being in an infinte universe, and as such cannot comprehend any motives if there are any to the existence of life, therefore I shall enjoy myself however the hell i feel like and everything else be damned. Being brutally honest if these people get a kick from this, that is there method of enjoying themselves, let them.
and yes, my philosophy means that if i could murder someone, not feel any negative emotional consequences or risk getting caught, I would do it without a second thought if it improved my lot.
clay, I would beg to differ.
Taking up possible living space, nature's space, crop growing space, and creating massive amounts of waste (anyone on the grid, anyone shopping retail does exactly that) IS creating a hindrance to both nature, and to other humans. We have to put trash somewhere and at some point it's going to end up in your back yard. If you're not helping to find better solutions to equitable living then you're still a part of the problem. We all have a carbon footprint, and beyond that, we all pollute. Regardless of how hard we try. You can't survive and not have some negative impact upon nature. Unless of course, you believe that our role in nature is to simply destroy it. We're not exactly simple predatory mammals that eat, crap, and become worm food though. We have much higher standards of living than that.
If you reach level 80 in 27 hours, how can you say that this guy doesn't have a life? I mean, he ONLY spent 27 hours on something others need spend 200 hours on. Now who has the 'better' life here...
200 hours is probably going to be spread over a large amount of time, not near a week's worth of just playing (guessing three weeks to a month of a few hours a day). This would leave time for important things like mentioned in comments before such as a job or contributing to society.
Though, if the player DOES play for a week in one sitting, then that's their stupid decision. If they choose to use their break or vacation time to strain themselves by playing video games for one week, power to them. We shouldn't care. Let them do that and hope they hurry up and die for being insignificant.
Are you serious??? Your asking people to give up their free time to do something to "contribute to society". Id like to ask you how many hours you spend in front of the TV? How many hours do you spend drinking with your friends? How many hours do you spend surfing the net? You realise all that time could be spent "contributing to society" right? You claim people are wasting their time and hurting society by using their free time to play WoW or any other MMO. If they can afford to play WoW and they are not on social welfare then that means they have earned this time and can spend it as they wish. Merely because one hobby is more widespread and more acceptable than another does not invalidate the other. Oh and JohnnyDough why the hell did you bring the enviromental argument into this??? WoW players could be powering their pcs with faking windmills for all you know, they could be more concious of the enviroment than your standard person. If you are complaining about them using a computer than Id like to ask you how you left your comments. Or perhaps you think painting with very broad brush strokes and lecturing people who might quite possibly be more intelligent than you and know more about the enviroment than you ever will is somehow "contributing to society".
This whole argument is still based on the tired cliche of the overweight nerd playing computer games in his basement, well Im sorry but thats just not the case anymore(if it ever was) and unlike you I have proof : http://www.ipsos-na.com/news/pressrelease.cfm?id=4140
My god it says that gamers are more likely to marry, go on a date, engage in sporting activities etc. Basically all the things you would think of a "winner" doing. So I guess maybe you guys who think gamers are "losers" can suck on some rock hard facts for once?
Let people do what they want.
It's amazing how some people can be so self righteous to decide for other people what a waste of time is. I could easily say that people who spend time "socializing" at bars are not only wasting time, but often become a menace to society as drunkards wandering the streets and driving vehicles posing a danger to themselves and others. You should notice that there are laws against being in public after a visit to a bar to take advantage of what is sold there, but there are no laws against someone going into public after playing an MMORPG. That is because it doesn't ever lead to a risk to anyone. Anonymous has a VERY good post and facts to back up what I'm saying as opposed to those criticizing MMORPG players who have NOTHING to support their position but there myopic personal opinion.
Don't hate the player(s)......Hate the game. As far as being a hindrance to society for mastering your favorite MMO goes....that account cost money every month. He is earning enough to pay for it and putting food on the table for someone downstream.
