16. System Performance: Sysmark 2002
We ran the application benchmark Sysmark 2002 in combination with different power schemes. In the "Portable/ Laptop" setting, the processors' Speedstep function is activated, which means that the processor decides how much performance it needs at a given moment depending on the application. In the next heat we conducted the measurement with the power scheme "Always On," which makes the CPU run constantly at maximum speed. Thus, these values indicate the system's maximum performance.
To finish off, we did a lap in battery mode (DC) with the power scheme "Presentation." Here, both systems run at a minimum CPU clock speed.

Despite a slower clock speed and a workload that doesn't overly tax the processor, the Pentium-M stays neck and neck with the Pentium 4-M (Office Score). At higher processor loads, however, its lackluster clock speed slows it down (Internet Score). All things considered, the T40 is a good performer overall.
Battery Life For Gaming, Presenting And Watching DVDs
THG determines the operating times in battery mode using three typical daily applications:
DVD playback:
A DVD (Apollo 13) is played back until the battery is empty.
Presentation:
A presentation runs in a repeating loop until the juice runs out.
Game:
Here, the demo from 3D Mark2001 SE serves as the basis for the test.
For all three tests, we selected the "Portable/ Laptop" setting as the energy scheme.

The results speak for themselves. With a maximum battery life of five and a half hours, the T40 ranks among the elite marathoners. Even with continuous DVD playback, the battery held out for nearly a full five hours.
