Mentions of a PlayStation Portable 2 Appear Online
Will a new PSP soon appear to do battle with the Nintendo 3DS?
With the Nintendo 3DS already publicly known, it may be time for the rumor mill to start turning towards wind of a new Sony PSP. While Sony's refreshed its portable effort with the PSP Go, hardware capabilities remained the same. Sooner or later, Sony will have to roll out a next generation of portable platform for its portable, and some whispers of have appeared online.
TechRadar has spotted on a couple of LinkedIn profiles mentioning work experience on the PSP2. Game developer Dominic Mason, Director at AtomFire Productions, listed his experience: "AtomFire Productions undertakes games and interactive entertainment projects for high-end web, DS and DSi, Wii, PSP, PSP2, PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE Arcade, WiiWare, iPhone and Windows."
Hilke Muslim, Coordinator at "Frumusete pe muchie de cutit", of ProTV in Romania, lists in her summary: "casting assistant: Sony PSP2."
Hopefully we'll hear some juicier rumors soon.

Or will the 3DS lay waste, as usual, to Sony?
PSP2 will be big. Just release it with two thumbsticks and I'll be happy.
Sony should just make it a phone too, than it might be more exciting. I don't even use the telephone side of my phone that much anymore anyway, I tend to call people as a last resort when a text message or email does not work. So, give it a touch screen for ipod like phone experience and keep the slide out controller for gamers.
I hate texting. Call me. SO much more convenient to use my device what it is actually used for.
psp2 ~~~ using intel i7 core ? hehe
bring back UMD support. I don't like downloading games.
psp phone!!! come on sony you could rape apple and Nintendo if you just added that to a PSPGO make it for all major carriers and you have instant win!!!
they really dont get it do they?
1. Flash based media format (SDHC cards range between 4 and 32 GiB) since UMD is a battery hog
2. Next-gen Tegra please! Sony should really take the initiative and work with Nvidia on new technology, then put it into the next PSP
3.Screen res greater than 480p. qHD (quarter 1080p or 960x540) would be awesome IMO since the Tegra is made for HD content. I hate when people say on such a "small screen" it's useless. But the screen is usually a few inches away from my face, which is roughly equivalent to a big screen a few feet away.
4. DUAL ANALOGS, NOT SLIDERS! L2 and R2 analog triggers!
Forgot to mention the whole phone thing.
I would personally like to see it, either if there was a whole iPod Touch/iPhone sort of deal, where one model has all the features except those related to using it as a phone. OR if it wasn't necassary to get a contract, and you could at any point hitch up with a carrier if you felt like using the phone functionality (which would be my preference).
Would be pretty cool to set up online match making through a 3G service.
Touchscreen OR GTFO!
Also, needs a accelerometer.
they better improve game quality with this version. I'm not just talking graphics, i mean playability the Original PSP failed me because all of its games for the most part had horrid playability compared to the DS high end games. as far as graphics for what it is worth i thought for the kind of device the PSP was it could have implemented better graphics, where as the DS on the other hand, you already knew you were getting lower end graphics and yet at the same time some of the DS games still managed to surprise you with how beautiful they looked.
anyway as far as the PSP2 it also needs to be smaller than the original PSP if it is like the picture, i think that will suffice. at the same time, i agree with the touchscreen addition that was previously mentioned it definitely needs this.
It will probably be a simple upgrade.
I don't get why everyone seems to want a phone in it...
In my opinion: Take the current PSP, give it dual analogs, beef up the CPU, more RAM, and an SD card slot instead of MMC. UMD support to be brought back, increased battery life and/or higher quality screen.
I just rumors of the Sega Mega-Micro system
If I've learned something after living 18 years in Romania, is that you should never believe what we say and especially don't believe what is written in a CV.
Looks like concept art for the PSP GO.
to make this wildly successful... have a build in torrent app. then add: a mini displayport/hdmi. enable different web browser support. enable flash/java support. somehow make power consumption more efficient. include the latest display technology, maybe Super AMOLED, or whatever is out by then. Make the thing 3d out the box. Use an SSD with at least 12gb. Also allow expandable memory. Include a built in webcam/mic for online gaming, online chatting, skype, aim, etc. I'm already drooling just thinking about something like this...

and cost more than the ipad... GG

Explain to me what useful legal purpose that would serve.

While they're at it, why don't they just magically make all my dreams come true?
A minihdmi slot would be cool, to output to a larger screen for fun when playing at home.
(yea yea im dreaming)
Improving battery duration, 10 hour battery life would be asking to much I guess, but the bomb for real, as opposed to just beefing up the power and keeping battery life on par which has been the deal with laptops for far to long...
Why can't eneloop make killer batteries for things like this??? PSP, DS/DSi/DSiXL, a smart charger to go along with it would be a plus
Other than that, the rest can be a surprise
While the PSP1 played PS1 games the PSP2 should play PS2 games.
Instead of UMD have 2 memory stick slots, 1 for OS and user and the other for games/software and user files.

Torrents aren't illegal, you can share anything across them, not just pirated materials. And don't claim what 'most people' do, since most of us also use our laptops, PCs, TVs, bedrooms/living rooms, phones to do 'illegal things' already, yet they still exist.
Just so you are aware Tom's, the pic you are using was leaked over a year ago as an artist rendering of the PSP go.
Well done on being current !

I understand that. I torrented the Arch ISO I used to install my Operating System. But what purpose does it have on a portable gaming device? I just can't conceive why you'd need a torrent client on something like that. What would you be downloading that would only be accessible by a torrent?

I really hope you are trolling. While the PS1 can be emulated at 100% on just about any computer built this century with a 3D card. the PS2 does not enjoy anywhere near the kind of emulation success on the most modern of high end systems. Don't you think Sony would have implemented PS2 emulation into the PS3 first?
Not while PS2 slims can still be had for $89 off the shelf in this country.
They would make more money on the lesser hardware and games than having software emulation on later model PS3s.
For those below a decent wage and still only have SD TVs in their place they wouldnt see any significant difference between the 2 versions being played on their PS3 and would opt for the PS2 cheaper version of the game everytime. Sony would then lose out on their subsidy for selling the PS3 cheaply.
Controls doesn't looks like hand friendly, other then that could be interesting but I will probably still prefer PS3/2.
@Ragman74
What about PS2 game sales over PSN? But this is going a bit off topic.
Maybe by "PSP2" they meant, "PSP Go"...
