PS3 Slams Into, Kills Bravia HDTV at 50 MPH

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

This is awesome.

We've all seen what happens with video game peripherals are thrown into HDTV screens. Yes, even on live television on the Home Shopping Network where a Wii accessory was tossed into a TV.

Let's take it to the next level. Let's throw an entire games console at a TV screen. Let's do it with fancy machinery and apparatus. Let's do it at 80 km/h or 50 mph.

That sort of thinking is what Sony Australia has done for its upcoming Bravia and PS3 campaign. According to Gizmag, Sony down under will be giving away 25,000 PS3 Slim consoles – one with each selected Bravia model.

In essense, Sony is 'throwing a PS3 Slim into each Bravia' sold.

Want to see what happens when it's taken literally? See the video below:

was anyone else impressed that it didn't go right through the TV? of course, there are metal supports, but suspending disbelief makes things like this fun.

Wait! But what about in the USA?!

That, is a cool AD.... :)

Wii is for wimps... I bet a Wii wont do that kind of damage.

Now, if that TV had video... oh the sparks!

if they used the original fat PS3 i am sure that would have split the tv in half

Brilliant marketing sony, felt like I was watching something epic, when in reality I'm watching you destroy a TV that would cost a couple thousand dollars.

well the PS3 looks fine after the impact.. i assume the HDTV needs some work on the frame suport structure, and a tougher windscreen, i mean glass

Princeofdreams :
I can't think of a more pointless advert, what are they trying to say? Hey throw your PS3 at a tv and buy a new one, make us more money. If they had thrown it and both still worked then I would of been impressed, this is as pointless as saying "hey water makes you wet"

I completely agree with you! Not sure why you're getting thumbs down on your comment. I watched that commercial, and it was a well produced one, clearly - but the point of it makes no sense at all. Is it shock value? Is it to show that Bravias are just as breakable as all others, etc? I suppose it's making us talk about it, so it worked - that's the ultimate aim of any commercial: to get noticed, and remembered.

What a waste of money (destroying a tv) but I like the idea!

And my old tube tv can get hit by a PS3. Or a SNES, since its a tube TV.

haha i respect this ad they are destroying their own products, high cool factor. See the test dummy on looking from the side lines haha I wonder how many times they did this to get the right looking impact.

I was totally expecting a full speed video. Was sorta disappointed I didn't get to see it in full speed.

But I have to say, that's one of the best commercials I've seen in a long time. Very cool. Not enough good commercials these days. They're all pretty stupid anymore.

It is a pretty cool commercial but if the objective was to inform viewers that they get a free PS3 with the purchase of a Bravia television they failed miserably. Not sure I understand the objective of that commercial, seems fit more for a viral youtube marketing campaign than a television based advert.

would've been more awesome if the TV was turned on...
