President Obama quickly established himself as the most tech-savvy of White House leaders yet with his insistence on keeping his BlackBerry and his use of internet video for addresses.

It seems that Obama’s fondness for technology also carries over to his international relations habits. According to the Telegraph, at their meeting today Buckingham Palace, the U.S. President gifted Queen Elizabeth an iPod loaded with video footage and photographs of her 2007 United States visit to Richmond, Jamestown and Williamsburg in Virginia.

The AP added that Obama also gave the Queen a rare songbook signed by composer Richard Rodgers. The Queen gave the supposedly “standard present for visiting dignitaries” -- a silver framed signed photograph of herself and the Duke of Edinburgh.

It’s unknown if the gifted iPod contained any appropriately themed music tracks, such as “Bohemian Rhapsody” or “Fat Bottomed Girls.”

Believe it or not, this might not be Queen Elizabeth’s first iPod. Reports say that she had purchased a 6 GB iPod Mini in 2005 at the suggestion of Prince Andrew. It is also unclear if that iPod held such classics as “Purple Rain” or “Little Red Corvette.”

Well, seeing he is the president and she is the queen you would have
thought he would have used a little due diligence and asked someone if
she already had an I Pod. DUH!

Maybe he needs a little less tech and a bit more common sense?

I dunno man, that iPod Mini from 2005 isn't keeping up with Queenie E's style. This new one is far more hip, and just what she needs to revitalize the image of the monarchy.

I believe this is a real story. (Well, not my bits about the Queen and Prince music.)

I think that an iPod loaded with videos and pictures from the Queen's visit is a very thoughtful gift. It shows that Obama's both thoughtful and in touch. Speaking of touch, and iPod Touch would been better for video and photos.

It would make my day if RIAA chooses to investigate this gift giving and claim that the president is infringing on artist rights.

Funny because I'm loving Obama more and more each day!

Then you don't know ****. Anyone who went with the auto bailout doesn't know ****. Nationalized health care is a bad idea, that only sounds good on the surface.

Wow you need to get out. Starting a political rant when there was none. I am neither a republican nor a democrat, I am a moderate and I do support Obama. When Chrysler goes under I want you to tell me it was better to my face as millions lose their jobs.

I wasn't the first to bring up Politics. Obama's a Mactard, and I don't like that.

The reason those companies went under is because of an overly powerful union. By bailing them out, we allow that Union to continue. There are certain lines each side cannot cross without consequences.

If a company doesn't pay their workers enough, they will no longer have a work force, and go out of business. However, if I union gets wages up so high that the company can no longer turn a profit, the company goes out of business.

Those Autoworkers were being paid $80/hour. Well above living wage. To do what? work on an assembly line. It's the Unions fault for being selfish, and the Business's fault for allowing them to go that far. We need to make an example, rather than letting an overbearing Union continue.

Funny how people who don't like seeing our Country spending 4.3 Trillion Dollars in a single year, to see a one party Goverment, to see the Goverment try to take over the Healthcare, Financial, and Auto Industries must be a Republican. Look up the word Fascism and then take a look at what our Goverment is headed towards. It doesn't take a Republican or Democrat not to like what is happening, it takes an American.
On the iPod thing. First the shrug off, then nonworking DvD's, and now the iPod. Are we trying to destroy our diplomatic ties? How could this not be an embarressment? Now we are going to have to send an apoligy letter to the Queen asking her to forgive our President.

QFT!

Excuse me for not crying when people making ~$160,000 a year lose their jobs. I know if I were making that much, I would have something stashed away. When I was a kid, the only breadwinner in my house was only made $20,000. We got by on an eight of an autoworkers salary (This was a 5 person household in 2004).

Here we go again. Another moron who thinks UAW workers get $70 an hour. Those figures are hugely inflated. In reality, they make $28.50 an hour. With benefits tacked on, it's another $10 an hour.
$70 an hour includes the pay and benefits for a worker, AND if you the share of the pension for retirees.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/200 [...] 0103.shtml

Is this outrageous? Not really. This means UAW workers get about $60 grand a year, and good health insurance. Adding the pension cost on there is not really accurate, because that worker is not getting that pension, they are just talking about the total of the cost of the pension distributed to active employees.

Is this more than it should be? Definitely, but don't spread B.S. like autoworkers are making $160,000 a year.

Were you a kid during the 70s? If so, that $20K salary your dad made is worth almost $100K today, more if it was earlier. http://www.westegg.com/inflation/

I was unaware those figures included pension. That still doesn't change that fact that these people were being paid extremely well for working on an assembly line.

None of this will change the fact that twenty years from now President Obama will look back and say, "I gave the Queen of England a f'ing iPod. What the hell was I thinking..."
The President of the U.S. is supposed to be a reflection of the entire United States and the reflection of the U.S. isn't an iPod and yes I know it was some iPod with the Queens last trip with special music. That still isn't us.
I believe that anybody here who had a chance to meet the Queen of England would try to give her a gift that not just reflects the person you are but all of us. The gift would be special and would have a meaning far greater than any normal gift. It would be a reflection of what Britain has meant to all of us and a thank you for being at our side.
When the Prime Minister was first snubbed, then given worthless DvD's, the American People sent over 200,000 cards saying we were sorry for the treatment he had recieved at our Presidents hands. I am sure the Queen will find out how much she trully means to us and will find out how generous and kind our people really are.
Still our President is becoming an embarressment and our hands are going to get pretty tired if we have to keep writing apoligies to everyone our President meets for the next four years.
Our President needs to realise that he is a reflection of our country and needs to act like it.

It does seem a little embarrassing to give o cheap toy with photos to the queen. On the other hand what do you call the autographed portrait of herself? ;] It would be interesting what You wold suggest he would have given Her Majesty as a gift? Remember that these gifts have a certain function and it isn't shoelicking.
