3. On The Graph And To The Ear

Measured under our usual testing conditions, and with all adjustments set at flat, the T20 delivered very balanced response, but with a hump centered at 2 kHz. This shouldn't be too noticeable, however, since its bandwidth is limited. The bass extended relatively low, but there was a decided drop-off at around 60 Hz; Creative has probably filtered the sub-bass to avoid problems. The maximum output we obtained was fairly modest, but that's understandable with this kind of speaker design.

Except for a hump centered at 2 kHz, the T20's response was quite impressive.

Linear bass, with a rapid drop-off at 60 Hz, which will avoid certain problems.

Maximum Level: 96 dB SPL

In our listening test, we found the sound of this kit clear and pleasant, with nicely detailed highs. We especially appreciated the good reproduction of voices, with very little coloration added. On the other hand, the bass took a back seat, and that was painfully obvious with certain types of music. When we increased the bass level on recordings with heavy bass, the lower end wasn't reproduced, but the rest quickly suffered from perceptible distortion. In fact, the T20 is at its best at lower volume levels, where you can make full use of the individual level controls to get the results you want.
