Hackers suggest that you turn off your iPhone if you get a suspicious text message.
Earlier this month we learned about a critical security flaw has been found in the SMS system for the iPhone that could remotely crash the device with a single text message.
It's believed that the security hole could pave the way for an attacker to run malicious code on the iPhone that would allow it to access the GPS, microphone or internet connection.
The security bug is unusual for the iPhone as most applications on the device run inside their own sandboxes, which should restrict them from tapping into portions of the device that it shouldn't be accessible. But for one reason or another, the SMS function isn't as protected and could give an attacker root access.
The security experts have already shared their findings with Apple, but the company has yet to release a patch or even indicate that a patch is on the way.
Whether Apple is ready or not, Mac OS X security experts Charlie Miller and Colin Mulliner plan to reveal the security hole plan on Thursday at the Black Hat cybersecurity conference in Las Vegas.
If Apple doesn't release a patch soon, iPhone users should be on guard against receiving a text message containing a single square character.
"This is serious. The only thing you can do to prevent it is turn off your phone," Miller told Forbes. "Someone could pretty quickly take over every iPhone in the world with this."
Stay tuned for an update tomorrow.

So, basically, connecting the various articles on this website- we will be nuclear bombed by jailbroken Iphones that recieve a "square" character as a text message? Is this Foxconn's master plan? Conspiracies!!! Jk
as i said in another article:
the chickens are coming home to roost, bobby boucher!
If Apple's abuse as of late to its brainwashed never questioning fanboys fails to make you avoid Apple's overpriced and overrated products. Maybe this will. Good thing hardly no exploits Apple's software.

AS a result, Steve jobs commits suicide!

Awesome!!! +10 for the idea
haha
Time to look up the recipe for Chicken Fricassee ... I'm sorry Dave i can't let you do that.
No no nuclear nuclear bombarded. That's a super nuke!
In Russia, iPhone crashes you!
"The security bug is unusual for the iPhone as most applications on the device run inside their own sandboxes, which should restrict them from tapping into portions of the device that it shouldn't be accessible"
bahahaha, there are ppl who still believe that apple products never get viruses because apple are just super awesome Gods of security? it doesn't matter how awesome your security is, if someone REALLY WANTS to hack it, they will find a way, and THAT is what has protected apple, no one REALLY WANTS to hack there stuff cause it wasn't popular enough. well... now it is.
So apples OSX is virus safe (per apple ads).. but its Iphone isnt? what am i thinking.. no way IPHONE run PC based software?
I'm a PC.. i'm not safe
I'm a MAC.. i never have problems
I'm an IPHONE.. running vista?
hmm.. wow, that is a bit of a bummer security hole. Oh well, look at Paris HIlton's blackberry that got hacked and contact list spread on the net. Or what about that fancy bluetooth sniper rifle that can "snipe" hack bluetooth enabled phones?
Surprise Surprise. Apple fucks up.
Mac's operating system will be an easier nut to crack once hackers start to focus on it. That is because it has a lot more code in it than Windows, leaving room for more vulnerabilities and bugs that hackers can exploit
Awesome! Out of all the different various itterations of the possible Terminator "Doom's Day" scenarios, I would never had guessed it could turn out to be this!
SkyNet = virus hacked, wirelessly linked, iPhone supercomputer
Damn! It's doesn't sound all that crazy once you see it printed out, heheheh!
Mass mailing iphone worm, as if ATT didn't have a crappy enough phone service, this would pretty much break the whole system. While I wouldn't condone such exploitation, I would still tip my hat to the folks who made it happen.
I want to take control of all the iPhones in the world!
lol all those biased fools who think their safe with mac.
Nice... just another reason to hate this junk
But don't worry apple-lovers - Steve have came up with a new iPhone for you all!

so this is where they got the plot for that batman movie! :-p
wait... steve jobs is utilizing this loophole!
that means... steve jobs is batman! zomg! i'm going to tell everyone!
LOL, geeks have too much time.
I thought all Apple Products were unhackable?
Hmmm?
LOL

No, they never had good security, they lived comfortably under the blanket of so few users = so few to target. Well when you put OS X on a phone and make it popular then you are going to draw the attention of the beast and because of their poor programing and security knowledge their customers will pay for it.
It has always amazed me how much Apple gets away with; there like the little brother that could do no harm. Sure MS has the market share, but Apple never gets sued for the same business tactics.
Yea, i'm beginning to wonder if apple is trying to use this as an excuse to make people purchase additional security applications...or even a new iphone with enhanced security to boost sales?
Aww well now i have to stop using my saying "macs may not get viruses but Steve jobs sure does" The day i get a virus on my iphone is the day i buy a new phone
It was only a matter of time before the trendy slogans got them the share of the market needed to draw attention to security holes. Now it is just a matter of time before someone starts exploiting that issue to cause some damage. I just see it now loss of service lawsuits put apple out of business due to lack of action to fix a known issue.
