iPod Touch With Camera Prototypes Hit eBay

We knew this was coming, so why does it still make us feel just a little bit peeved?

In the run up to the iPod refresh last fall, there were a ton of rumors about the addition of a video camera to both the iPod touch and iPod nano. While many people disliked the idea of adding a video camera to the iPod nano, it sort of made sense to add one to the iPod touch. The iPhone had a camera and the iPod touch is basically an iPhone without the cell phone capabilities, so why not throw in a camera?

When the event rolled around, Apple announced a new iPod nano equipped with a video camera, but left the iPod touch as it was (apart from some minor tweaks). It was a weird move considering pictures of an iPod touch with a camera did the rounds a few days before the event. However, with an iPod refresh every year, it was irritating to know Apple was probably waiting to add in the camera for one reason or another.

Here, we have the first evidence that Apple will be adding a camera to the iPod touch this year. 9to5Mac reports that two camera-equipped iPod touches showed up on eBay. The listing has since been removed but it originally detailed two 32GB development units with camera parts. Aside from the camera on the back, everything looks pretty much the same on the hardware-side of things, though it's impossible to know what's inside. Interesting to note one of them seems to be running some kind of "switchboard" OS.

I don't see the point of only letting the camera take videos, and not photos... whilst the iPhone had only photo capabilities for a while, (not sure about now, I believe when you jailbreak one you can give it video).

You have to give credit to apple as a money making company, i'm sure they could make these products with all these features from the get go but why do that when enough people already buy them as is, then they can slowly add these features on to them as time goes by, not to mention the accessories you have to buy such as a camera connection kit instead of having a standard micro usb port

You really think that's not on purpose? iPad will get a camera but only after most everyone has the first gen iPad, then comes the new iPad with camera. They've done it since the beginning, why stop now?
