Also worthy of note is an improvement to the image information found on the playback menu. The image info includes file name, size, time and date and resolution shot. In addition, image info now shows shutter speed, aperture, ISO speed, shooting mode, and.... a histogram.

The R967, like the R827, can also shoot video at VGA or QVGA resolution, and stores the files as MPEG-1. Another feature, found on both cameras is the ability to attach a sound file to a picture. It's a nice feature, and could help you remember why you took the picture, where it was, or for that matter, what it was.
Like the R827, the Photosmart R967 has a design gallery that lets you apply artistic effects, such as dots, watercolor, kaleidoscope and drawing to your images while they're still in the camera. You can also add borders, modify colors, create B&W or sepia copies and even crop your photos without ever downloading them to your computer.
The Photosmart R967 is an extremely easy camera to use in the automatic modes, but the added shooting modes make it very appealing to the more serious photographer. Still, at $449 it's a sizeable investment. A possible alternative might be the Photosmart R927, currently selling for $315 on HP's web site. It has the same form factor, features, shooting modes and 3" LCD as the R967, but only has an 8.2 Megapixel sensor and 8X digital zoom. No matter which one you choose, the R967 might not replace your DSLR, but will make a great addition to any shirt pocket or purse.
