6. The Runner/Walker Recommendation

The original Forerunner from Garmin was huge, ugly, and looked more like a younger sibling of the Streetpilot than a serious runners tool. This has all changed, however; the Garmin Forerunner 205 and 305 are leaner, meaner and look like they have athletic-watch "DNA" evolved into them. The new Forerunner uses a more sensitive receiver from SiRF, and has a new antenna configuration that makes running or walking anywhere feasible.

The Style Verdict

If you happen to be wearing all the Forerunner accessories as well - foot sensor, heart sensor, and so forth - you'll feel like a sweaty but athletic Borg. While Garmin talks the talk about the stylishness of the 205/305, to me, they remind me of a stopwatch strapped to your arm. Even so, this product fits into the Runner/Walker athletic lifestyle perfectly.
