Hackers Attempted to Gain AT&T Customer Account Info
All appears to safe, for now.
AT&T today informed customers that hackers have attempted to infiltrate the U.S. telephone company to steal account data. AT&T claims that no accounts were breached, but it is simply informing its customers "out of an abundance of caution." The text is as follows:
We recently detected what could have been an organized attempt to obtain information on a number of customer accounts. The people in question appear to have used "auto script" technology to determine whether AT&T telephone numbers were linked to online AT&T accounts. No accounts were breached and our investigation is ongoing to determine the source or intent of the attempt to gather this information. In the meantime, out of an abundance of caution, we are advising the account holders involved.

It's refreshing to see news like this not being spun as yet another digital doomsday.
I wonder if someone was trying to access actual telephone account information or trying to access AT&T credit card accounts.
It takes a rocket scientist to realize that usernames and passwords for AT&T's site are created through scripts, and that the passwords are the phone number by default.
It would take an evil genius to figure out that you can purchase things for your phone directly from AT&T's website and have it billed to your telephone accounts, with the consumer unable to see the transaction at least until their next bill arrives.
What kind of criminal mastermind could have put these two things together and attempted to exploit them!
they must have wanted the names of the most disappointed customers in the world
Or at least that's what they want "you" to think..

Yeah I agree that these hackers that maliciously attempt to defraud and steal from customers should face severe penalties ...I would be for an actual loss of fingers and hands. Just remember that hackers.
"auto script" is for noob hackers....
AT&T customers already suffer from horrible network and hackers are adding insult to injury.
What ever happened to Anonymous shutting down FB on Nov 5th....
For weeks I have been getting very poorly written english messages from "ATT Support" needing me to provide my information or they are cancelling my account.

I have continued to ignore the messages and yet I am still on the internet even after several last chance messages.
