Gran Turismo 5 Delayed, But Here's Box Art

- By - Source : Tom's Guide US

The Real Driving Simulator gets pushed back.

Gran Turismo, one of the premier franchises that give gamers a reason to buy PlayStation, has yet to appear on the PS3 despite the console being on the market since 2006. The last full Gran Turismo game, GT4, was released five years ago.

We thought that things were almost in the can for Gran Turismo 5 when the a Japanese release date was set for this March, but Sony Computer Entertainment today announced that the game's release date has been changed to "TBA," or to be announced.

No specific reason was given for the delay and there's no word yet how this might affect the expected release of the game on our side of the world this summer.

Gran Turismo 5 was playable at CES – in 3D, no less! At least we have final box art now to hang on to. The cover star is the Mercedes SLS AMG, a car that the closest many of us will get to experience is through a video game. Sigh.

Grand Turismo has been one of the best racing games, better to wait for a polished product.

Delayed yet again... jeeez. This just fuels the fire! The Forza Motorsport world is laughing their asses off right now.

If Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is anything to go by I'm more than happy to wait.

I don't see why the Forza crew would be laughing their asses off though, GT has a loyal following and I doubt any GT fans will defect to XBox just to satisfy their driving simulator fix. They may get one as well, which will line the Forza crowd's pockets, but GT won't suffer losses in sales.

I don't own a PS3 yet, but the only reason i will be purchasing one is the same reason i own a PS2: GTA series and Gran Turismo series. Those are the "only" console games i own.

Yea well, considering this was supposed to be a near-launch title for PS3, I'm sure Sony is a bit peeved. It should be time for GT6 already.

GTA is on 360, with exclusive additional content available. You should really give the latest Forza entry a whirl on a friend's machine, preferably with the racing wheel. It's pretty awesome - more than once I've heard a GT fan say "I love Gran Turismo, but Forza does it better."

Forza has nothing on Gran Turismo, sucks we have to wait longer, but when it is released, it will be epic.

It would appear that blizzard bought the GT franchise! :P

GT has missed the boat, the with excellent Forza 3 and the more fun Need for Speed Shift, GT is just going to be an also ran. Will pick up a copy when its in the bargain bin. To little too late.

Being a GT1, 2, 3, and 4 fan, I bought a PS3 2-1/2 years ago for almost no other reason than playing GT5. I played Gran Tusismo HD until I was sick of spinning around the same short track over and over. I bought and played GT5 Prologue for about a week, then sold it, reasoning that I just wanted to wait until the full version came out. Well I gave up waiting for GT5 over 6 months ago and sold my PS3 - went full PC gaming only. This has taken WAY too long. They should have just released a simpler version of GT5 than what is planned and started working toward GT6. At this rate, you may as well just wait for PS4's racing games.

This is a joke...GT5 better be one mind-bending game, or I'm just going to skip it.

Probably because programming the darn thing is harder than they would like. No surprise here though.

For a racing sim franchise that they have been making for ages, on a console they should be masters at coding for? That's no excuse. Especially given that they have access to the best tools for the system before anyone else. Out of all development teams working on the PS3, there's really no excuse for these guys to get caught with their pants down.

I would care about Grand Turismo's delay if it was coming out on PC.

Oh yes. No game captures the thrill of driving a Ford Fiesta quite like GT.

I like the game but half the cars cost less than the one I drive.

Shouldn't they change the exclusive tag on the box from :Only on Playstation" to "Not Even on Playstation"

Ahh Yes. Please take as much time as you need. I would rather wait for finished polished product also. There are already enough titles out there obviously rushed to market because of a budget deadline. No need to dilute the GT series in that way.

Agreed, Sony doesn't need sales being diverted by the releases of two other big games.

Than you know nothing about programing. Every machine is different than another. It's not easy, costs time to do something decent.

Maybe they are trying to make it the best simulator they can...

...because, you know, you can really feel the realism when you're twiddling thumbsticks at a constant 1G on a comfy sofa.

GT3 was awesome, GT4 had its head up its arse. Just release GT5, even if you "only" have 400 cars instead of over 9000, since we're only ever going to use 5 of them anyway.

I think the art on the cover could be cooler. The pedals should be outlined and able to be seen just like the other half of the wheel.

"since we're only ever going to use 5 of them anyway" if your a car lover and not a tool, you'll play this game and drive certain cars just to drive them and not even race with them. Its not always about beating the game. Its about having a pleasurable experience.

I read a comment made by someone in another forum, he said; it's probably has something to do with Sony's new firmware 3D TV update due out sometime this year. Polyphony are probably waiting on it...

Can't wait to play it. In the other GT series i'd always try to win all gold in at least 2 of the lower tier licenses class(gets too hard for me ;P) and start out with a free car :D
