Yet another iPhone has exploded in France, injuring its owner.

There's been a couple of exploding iPod/iPhone stories over the last few weeks and in one incident, a teenager suffered an injury to his eye when his girlfriend's iPhone exploded. This week, the Times Online reports that another iPhone shattered without warning.

Yassine Bouhadi, a 26-year-old security guard at a supermarket at Villevieille, near Nîmes, reported that his iPhone made a noise like a mirror shattering while he was texting his girlfriend. The next thing Bouhadi knew, he was tweezing Apple-branded shrapnel out of his eye.

"I was texting my girl friend like I do every day when the phone made a noise like 'schplok'. A little bit of screen hit me in the eye and I had to remove it with a tweezer," the security guard said.

While this is not the first case of exploding Apple devices we've heard this summer, the Times Online reports that readers of local newspapers where the young man lives are already doubting the story, claiming the damage to Bouhadi's iPhone looks as though it was caused by something hitting the screen rather than the device exploding/shattering/overheating.

TO has since updated its article to say the state consumer standards agency (DGCCRF) has opened an investigation into shattering iPhones after a total of six French owners reported spontaneous self-destruction.

Apple products are manmade afterall, and like all manmade things they too can fail. The question is, what is Apple going to do about it? My guess is that they ignore then downplay this as usual.

Seems like Apple may be a bit xenophobic. Probably why their laptops are not called MacBook Preux.

yeah, don't worry about it, they're going to close/delete anything on their forums about it, as well...A problem does not exist if you can't complain about it...

I use my Ixplode everyday... no issues.

I’m sure some or most of these cases are certainly possible but I wonder if in some instances such as this article if perhaps people might be jumping on the free sue apple deal being issued when you purchase an ixplode now.

Actually in most cases they pay the person to shut up about it.

How many Sony Batteries actually exploded before they did a total recall?

Have there been any reports explaining what part or component explodes? I know batteries could explode.

This gives whole new meaning to the concept of planned obsolescence. Congratulations on your new purchase....this Iphone will self-destruct in 1 year.

"tweexing Apple-branded shrapnel out of his eye" -- ouch! Maybe we can use this in war... strap 10 of these onto a small robot, drive it into an enemy camp, overheat self -- boom, Apple-branded shrapnel wins the war.

It is a little unfair to keep branding it the iGrenade as it doesn't really explode, it just sort of blows broken glass in the direction the screen is facing.

Maybe the iClaymore would be more appropriate?

Maybe this is why the EU is going after MS and not Apple. See they put an explosive in every iPhone going to the EU and if they do not do exactly as Jobs orders then old Steve presses the red button and......

well, Claymores tend to have a blow back in the opposite direction of the main blast, so iClaymore wouldn't work either...now iShapeCharge might be a better choice... =p

That's what you get for buying into a social fad-frenzy. Be sure to sit your iPhone next to your Furby on the shelf.

We know what Apple is doing already. They send a letter and a refund as long as they never discuss the issue in public. In other words, they refund you to shut your trap.

Why are only French people's iPhones exploding? Sounds suspicious to me...

Interestingly that although there more iPhones in US then in Europe, they tend to "blow up" mostly in Europe ((last tree I think was in France). Is it just that EU media likes to make more buzz about the presumably defective iPhones than falling Airbuses,
or is it's just more attention whores/freeloaders in there.
Since suing American companies for being competitive seems to become major source of income for EU, I guess it's both
