You've got a date with Final Fantasy XIII.

Final Fantasy XIII has been one of those games that has gamers investing into a current generation platform. Originally thought to be a Sony exclusive, Final Fantasy XIII will be headed to Xbox 360 as well – but the question remained, regardless of platform, as to when it would hit.

Square Enix confirmed at a Japanese press event that Final Fantasy XIII will be out in Japan on December 17, 2009 for the PlayStation 3.

The big news is that Final Fantasy XII will be complete in the coming months, meaning that localization efforts can begin, as well as the port to the Xbox 360.

While Square Enix wasn't ready to commit to a hard date for a western release, but according to Kotaku, Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada said "In the past, it's taken a year or half a year to release our games abroad, but this time we are aiming for an international release this Spring."

I haven't played a FF game since I borrowed a PS1 to play FF IX. Might just be worth getting one for this though. If not, I'm going to for sure steal a PS3. :P

I was excited when i read December... and then very sad when i saw Spring :( for us Westerners.

FF7 was likely my favorite all time RPG Game.

did they really develop it for the ps3, and are going to port it to the 360? I hope so, not only cause i have a ps3, but also cause if you can get it running good on the ps3, you can get it running good on anything!, easier to do a quick port to the 360 than to the ps3...

I meant to say typo, I think this correction is valid and not one of those grammar nazi situations.

You could always import it. I can't stand the English voice acting. Soul Caliber 4 got that part right. If they maxed out the ps3 making FF13 it doesn't mean that a different developer can't get more performance out of it and say they maxed it out too.

"You've got a date with Final Fantasy XIII."

No, some Japanese kid has a date with FFXIII. On December 17th.

Me? Here in America, I've got a wait with no set date. There's a distinct difference.

FF is o.k, but honestly I haven't really been impressed since FF7. It's story and game play was great and the graphics weren't bad for the time. Of course the FMV sure helped it along, especially when some originally thought it was actual game play ^_^

The PS3 release I have heard will have the option for Japanese dub/English subs.

For me FF3 is the best of the series and if they would remake that game, I would buy a PS3 just to play it. But come to think of it i just might buy a PS3 for this game, Because it looks awesome.
(i think the PS3 version will be better then the Xbox 360.)

The nerfed version probably looks different than that pic. I'd rather wait another year but have it look as best as possible.

...Looks at picture ...O.O... and they wonder why some would want to date game girls. It's so long since i've played a FF game why don't they re-release some of the old ones? ...Sigh...

Agreed, could you imagine if the remade FF6/7 with today's hardware? If times ever get tough for Square then that would be an easy way to sell a butt-load of games.

Was the author of the article one those people who believes the game was delayed because of the announcement of the 360 version? You will not have to wait for it to be "ported to 360" because its allready running perfectly on 360. I played it a week ago. They have a seperate team working on the ps3 and 360 version, therefore theres no "port"ing being done, its being developed side by side.

Too bad everyone always say this is the best RPG game there is. It's a good game, but the best RPG? It's just a story driven game and people who believe this is the best, should go to the stores and pick one of the other games in the genre.

If I had a ps3 I would get the japanese dub with english sub version, but alas no ps3 and no desire to buy one. No 360 either, so won't get it on that platform either. Maybe if they released it on the pc, it would be worth my time.

Is it just me or should Final Fantasy drop the numeric sequels format?

For example, the Need For Speed franchise is flogging the proverbial dead horse in the profligacy of it's sequels but they have gone with a naming system, like NFS Most Wanted or NFS Carbon, etc etc.

The IP holders of Final Fantasy, really, you need to work on having a bit more imagination and when Final Fantasy XIV comes around get with the program and call it something more imaginative, it's not like they are running out of ideas for content so why is a name so hard?

I played FF1 and Dragon Warrior 1. Pretty cool games. I couldn't play anymore after that because I always feel like I'm playing the same shit over and over again.

FF1 and Dragon Warroir 1 are pretty old games you should give them another try and see the differances.

She's a beauty. Is that an in-game or just trailer/clip-in-game? I haven't played FF games except FF5 and I didn't even finish it. I did finish Lufia 1 and 2 though.

*sigh* Getting tired of all the FF7 lovers...everyone's forgotten about the superior FF2/4 and FF3/6 sprite-based games.

FF7 was garbage IMO. Blurry gouraud shaded graphics, stupid scewed-perspective screens and only 3 character party combat compared to FF 2's 5 and FF3's 4. The story was okay, but not as great as the rabid fans proclaim.

This series is dead and flooded with too many rabid fans who can't/won't let it get out of its mired mediocrity, same as happen with any series which becomes a hit, its fans smother it to death.
