Regarding the screen size, the user has a choice between a TFT display with a 14.1 or 15 inch diagonal. The TFT display's native resolution is 1024x768 pixels.

On the left side of the body are the FireWire port, the audio connectors and the PCMCIA slot, which can accommodate a Type II card. Dell placed the IR port, which conforms to the IRDA 1.1/1.0 standard, below the PCMCIA slot.

The optical drive, or optionally the secondary battery, sits in the multibay.
