9. The Peculiarities Of The Geforce FX Go 5600 In The Satellite 5200

Normally when we test a mobile GPU we list the clock speeds of the graphics core and the video memory in the test device. This is not possible with the Satellite 5200, although a tool like the Powerstrip will acknowledge the GPU correctly and display clock rates.

The clock speeds of the GeForce FX Go 5600 in the Satellite 5200.

They are so low that we doubt the accuracy of the values displayed. It is impossible to change the clock speeds using the Powerstrip, let alone make the tool display other values, when the PowerMizer controls (see below) are moved in the graphic driver. Naturally, THG tried to get this information from Toshiba and requested an official statement. In the end, this is what we were told: "Regrettably, we cannot make a statement on this matter at this point in time."

A good guess can be made at to what all of this secrecy conceals. Can't the GeForce FX Go 5600 be clocked as high as indicated by nVIDIA? Did Toshiba, for stability reasons, decide in favor of a speed that lies at the bottom end of the of specified spectrum? We don't know; at Toshiba, apparently, they've "forgotten."
