Another special feature of the mobile PC is the DVD multi-drive. This allows not only DVD-R and DVD-RW media to be written with 1x speed, but even DVD-RAM media with 2x speed. CD-Rs and -RWs can write to the optical drive with maximum data rates of 16x or 8x, respectively. An SD card reader and the switch for wireless communication are located above the optical drive. The test device has an integrated Bluetooth module; a WLAN module can be added if needed.

On the outside left on the backside, there are two USB ports and the VGA port, which has a protective dust cover.
The front of the case is dominated by the audio-video control knobs and the sub-LCD.

The AV control panel of the Satellite 5200.
The sub-LCD indicates the playback mode ("CD/ DVD" or "Digital Audio") and the battery load status. If an audio CD is put in and the "CD/ DVD" playback mode is selected, the notebook can also be used as a stand alone audio CD player.

The sub-LCD.
It is even possible to display the time, date or other information in the freely programmable sub-LCD.
