11. Atlantic EGO Waterproof Floating iPod Case

by Ed Tittel

As with the Fossil caller ID watch, this waterproof, floating iPod case, which comes equipped with a pair of watertight speakers and an equally moisture-proof dock for your iPod, is a gadget lover's delight. Of course, the gadget lover who receives this offering had better already own an iPod for docking and demonstrate at least some moderate interest in water sports (or a pronounced proclivity for listening to music in the shower!)

This floating iPod case houses all its components inside a clear plastic shell, and comes with a handy shoulder strap and an adjustable wrist strap.

The case gets its power from four AA batteries, and the maker claims that this endows the unit with up to 30 hours of playback time for music and videos from suitably equipped fifth generation iPods. That claim notwithstanding, we have to guess that battery life is probably shorter when playing back video than when listening to music sans moving pictures.

This unit works with all iPod fourth generation photo, fifth generation video, mini, and nano models. It includes three flexible spacers designed to hold all of these models snugly in place behind a waterproof cover when docked; the manufacturer even includes a set of AA batteries. Its dimensions are 1.75" x 9.75" x 6.2" (44 x 248 x 157 mm) and it weighs nearly 2 lbs (900 g).
