Tonium's Pacemaker Pocket DJ System
What could you do with a hand sized DJ system? Scary thought: tone deaf people could be scratchin’! Tonium’s Pacemaker is the world’s first pocket DJ system, and enables legal mix sharing. You can play two tracks simultaneously and has a wide range of audio manipulation features. Use the TFT display to select effects, music, and so on. The circle is a scratch touch pad. You can use this touchpad for menu browsing, band pitch, EQ and FX settings, gain adjustments, and cue point search. Other buttons let you do loop in and loop out, re-loop, cue, and play/pause. A separate touchpad does cross fading. This hand sized device has 120 GB of storage and boasts an SNR of 103 dB. Pacemaker supports all standard formats, including MP3, AAC, WMA to 320 kbps, OGG Vorbis, FLAC, and WAV.

The Pacemaker will ship with cables and charger, works with Windows or Mac, and also boasts two crossfaders, 100% pitch control, and broad range equalizers. You can capture continuously to the hard drive. There are headphone and line outs, and mini a USB input.
Now for the bad news: list price is expected to be around $700 and samples won’t be available until early spring. In the demonstration I saw, the Pacemaker proved to be an easy to use, versatile DJ system. I had a very hard time getting pictures, because Tonium’s human DJ was having so much fun he couldn’t stand still, never mind hold the Pacemaker without jiggling it. This is a key advantage for DJs: you can connect with your audience, as you now can move to the beat while still throwing down some righteous grooves. Scratch to the beat, y’all!
