Best Buy Offering Free Skins to iPhone 4 Buyers

4:20 AM - July 30, 2010 - By Marcus Yam - Source : Tom's Guide US

Another solution to antenna woes.

While Apple is offering free cases to all iPhone 4 owners, Best Buy is offering its customers another free solution – a free Side Shield from invisibleSHIELD, which is a clear skin the goes over the metal band antenna.

This program will be available free of charge, including installation, to anyone who purchased or will purchase an iPhone 4 from Best Buy and will be extended to all existing Reward Zone customers, whether or not they bought their iPhone 4 from the retailer. The solution will also be available to the general public for the retail price $9.99, including installation.

"At the same time, we know that customers are always looking for ways to personalize and protect their smart phones. That's why we are so focused on having multiple options-people want to choose what's right for them."

If Apple's free cases weren't good enough, Best Buy is also offering 20 percent off of any iPhone 4 case through August 7.

That's kinda nice and a good idea from a PR perspective. Especially since they're essentially free to manufacture.

I like this approach better than the bumper which hides the aluminum.

tthe bumper is more of a homebrew solution IMO, something a normal person would come up with, i cannot imagine a multinational company giving out pieces of plastic to cover up their mess, but apple has done just that

Great PR for them at very little cost. I guess it helps those that actually bought this phone.

Sooo, let me get this straight. Whether or not you bought your iphone at Best Buy, you get a free 'shield', but you could also buy one for $9.99...? I wonder which pricing option people will choose...?

Free installation? Do I understand that correctly? There are people out there that can't put a rubberband (or some type of sticker) around this phone?

No, only if you bought the phone at Best Buy OR you are a Reward Zone customer at Best Buy. Only then can you get it for free. Everyone else must buy the protector.

Right, I left it somewhat vague to show that regardless of whether or not you purchased the actual phone at BB, you may or may not get it free...

Are you serious ysuhaas? Have you not been paying any type of attentiont to this at all.

1-People complain about attena issues.
2-Job says you're holding it wrong.
3-Job says you're not getting free bumpers.
4-People say that's unacceptable.
5-Apple makes a fix for the attena issue that supposly was one of the root causes. Except basically what it ment.. Is you're still dropping to 0 bars except now at least it won't still show 2 lol.
6-Apple gives away free bumpers to everybody with an iphone 4 out of the goodness of their heart.

There is an ilogicbomb article about how crappy this iPhone 4 is. If your device can't perform it's primary function then I don't care how metrosexual it is, it has failed...

It's worth mentioning that Reward Zone is a free program. It's a points system, every dollar spent before tax, rounded down on each purchase, counts as a point. When you accumulate 250 points, they email you a $5.00 gift certificate. There are never any fees, so if you weren't a Reward Zone member, and you have an iPhone 4, then sign up at their customer service desk. Then you can get it for free no matter what.
