Adding a personal assistant to this excellent AV player wasn't essential. For $300 more than the price of the more basic Archos AV 400, you don't get many applications compared to, say, a Palm Zire 72 with a Wi-Fi extension card.
If the catalogue of applications and games offered by Trolltech and Archos grows, then the idea of having my entire digital life in a single device I can hold in my hand might appeal to me. But then something would have to be done to improve the Wi-Fi capabilities, because that's the main selling point compared to a PDA.
