According to TweakTown, jaillbreakers discovered over the weekend that Apple's latest OS 3.0.1 update did not fix exploits used by redsn0w and ultrasn0w. Apparently, consumers only need to reinstall and direct redsn0w to the 3.0 firmware ipsw in order to re-jailbreak the iPhone and use the new SMS security patch. ZDNet is also reporting that the new update doesn't disable unlocked tethering capabilities.

Last week Apple rushed out an OS update addressing a critical SMS vulnerability presented by security researchers Charlie Miller and Colin Mulliner at the Blackhat conference. Hackers could take advantage of the exploit by gaining access to the root of an iPhone by sending a series of text messages.

Although the 3.0.1 update fixed the exploit, both redsn0w and ultrasn0w were rendered unusable. However, jailbreakers discovered that once the iPhone was updated, both programs could be installed again. Apparently, Apple didn't modify the baseband of the OS, but rather simply addressed the exploit.

Either way Apple programmers are always just one step behind jailbreakers. Its as if they weren't opposed to simple locking the phone out from jailbreaking apps, because if they were to do that the Iphone community would be in an uproar. Yet they complain about tampering with their OS, jailbroken phones can make free anonymous calls, and can crash service towers. I say stop playing the service provider game, since you eventually when Congress finally agrees on having all cellphones unlocked.

How about fixing the damn exchange calendar bug?!? Real nice that nobody in our business can accept or deny meeting requests without screwing up the meeting acceptance for everyone else. Apple is a joke when it comes to really following through with customer care.

Saying the word "secure" doesn't make an OS secure. How can Apple claim your iPhone is safe from hackers or malicious software if they can't stop people from unlocking the phone? Sure, people have to install the jailbreaking software, but what other things can hackers do with SMS or email or webpages that Apple just doesn't know about yet?
