4. Voice Recording
Voice recordings are encoded as MP3, the quality level of which can be selected in the settings menu. The built-in MIC port is adequate, but it would have been nice to include a Microphone-In port.
There is no meaningful progress indicator when you start a voice recording. Other players will show the number of seconds recorded or a blinking light, but the DVX-POD just shows a blank bar that will fill up very slowly.
Conclusion
The DVX-POD has the biggest and highest resolution screen of any portable media player. The 720x480 screen can actually play a DVD movie with no reduction of native resolution. It is a shame that this large screen largely goes to waste, however, because most videos from the Internet simply won't play back on the unit.
Audio and video recording work well, and the picture viewer functions as advertised. With just the DVX-POD and composite cable, you have an extremely portable recording device. 20 GB is a bit small when you compare the DVX-POD to other comparable media players, but this can be easily fixed in the future.
The DVX-POD is a decent first try from Ama Technologies. If the video playback problems can be fixed, the DVX-POD could be the perfect media player.
